well, when they showed it at our school, the pilot showed the kid, raja, as a well-mannered kid who helped around the house. i didnt there were many stereotypes, except for the accent and how he just randomly starts saying the shahadah out loud in front of people. oh, and they show him mopping the floor and washing the dishes and stuff....

the actual guy isnt pakistani. He is indian. and he doesnt really believe in anything.

oh in the article, the muslim student from pakistani descent in the audience is me too. a kid asked if raja had been portrayed accurately, amy pietz, the mom, looked around, saw me, and came runnning towards me with the mike and stuck it in front of my face. i was like....er....

My review based on the trailer:
Anyone else feel embarrassed? It might just be me, but this looks loaded with Muslim stereotypes. Not to mention they didn't get somethings about Islam correctly (the Muslim student is attracted to the sister in the family, and stuff like that)

It might be funny, but who knows? I'll check it out.

Here are my thoughts.

First, no exchange student from Pakistan is going to be wearing shilvar kameez. In all likelihood, he will be heavily westernized. Thats not to say there wouldnt be noticeable differences, but not like that.

I dont think anyone wears shilvar kameez in the US due to being new / coming from abroad (except maybe some females).
The people who wear shilvar kameezes in the US outside of masjid/cultural contexts are likely the identity confused types who may in fact be ABCDs themselves.
So the show looks like a portrayal of Pakistanis/Muslims as human beings? Probably due to Pakistan's help with the "War on Terror".
Things that may be considered insignificant at first glance on TV (even fictional TV), in my thinking, are not merely coincidental.
Also there is nothing inaccurate about showing the exchange guy being attracted to the sister.

i think it might...especially since its ramadan and all the non-muslims keep hearing all the muslims talking about fasting, so they might get more interested in it...
