AsSalamu' Alaykum,
![]() I tried a search but didn't find anything about this show of, "A group of volunteers from Yorkshire agree to live under Islamic law in a bid to understand more about the religion and to explore what it could bring to their lives". I'm starting to watch it now... Make Me A Muslim ![]() shadha-

Still watching....Luke really is so cute and sweet. MashaAllah the Imam is being so gentle and easy going with him. I think the Imams approach is making a huge difference.
EDIT: Suliman and Luke are the greatest duo ever. ![]() The Imam is also does a great job with Phil. ![]() shadha-

Haha, she was a hot mess.
So I stayed up all night into the early morning, with a friend yay!, and watched all three episodes. It was goood. I have a few things to say about it though. With the exception of Imam Ajmal, they could have done a MUCH better job with choosing the mentors. Dawn obsessed over the Hijab way too much and the volunteers were becoming resentful of it. She wanted the women to be in long loose outfits, yet she herself was busting onto the scene in tight jeans and tight shirts--where is the consistency? The volunteers weren't even able to meet and hear from other Muslim Hijabis how they felt about the Hijab etc. There was also no reason for her to bust on Phil [about drinking the water and cursing] on the trip, knowing the man is starving for the first time in his life and you're going to start harassing him? Dawn just irritated me for the entire show. Then you have the other mentor, Suliman. Outside of the store incident with Luke, he was a poor mentor. He didn't explain things tactfully nor did he fully respond to most of what the volunteers said. Then you have the other guy, the missionary, Muhammad? He was just a hot mess. The singing in the street...OH MY GOD. I felt so bad for the kid standing next to him, his facial expressions were priceless. ![]() I know the mentors tried their best but I still think they did a poor job. The volunteers...Carla irritated the MESS out of me. The only reason why that wretched woman got nice towards the end is because her nasty self got engaged so she was still up in fa la land. And I seriously adore Luke. He had THE most to lose yet he went in head first and did everything he was suppose to. He really did take the most from this experience. I wonder how he's doing now. ![]() ![]() shadha-

I watched it when it first came on TV in the UK, and found it to be a very interesting programme.
It was interesting to see how the different individuals came to the place that they were in their life, and the reasons they agreed to participate in the programme. The blonde girl who had the Muslim boyfriend (can't remember her name) was desperately trying to be accepted by Ash's family. Personally, I feel that that is the wrong reason to think about embracing another way of life, but I admire her for the efforts that she made. Whilst watching the programme she did irritate me on various things she did and said, but I realised in retrospect she was going through a whole host of frustrations and difficulties in her personal relationship with Ash which probably contributed to her resentment and sabotage on certain things. Phil, the atheist taxi driver, is the eptiome of an average Joe in England. I think the best that could have been hoped for is that he took away the message that Muslims are as British as the rest of the population, and that Islam is not a threat to the British way of life. It seems that the time he spent with the Pakistani newsagent and his friends had the most impact on him, and it was insightful of Ajmal to realise that different people are at different levels of understanding, and learn in different ways, and to send him there. Shadha, you mentioned Luke a few times. I think he was the gay guy, correct? I was most suprised with his transformation. Agains he seemed like the epitome of a normal young British person, clubbing, partying, and so on. He had to cut his hair, and change the way he dressed, which must have been soul destroying for him at first, but like you, I was most impressed with the way he really committed himself to the experiment and to make the most of it. I was most suprised that he was still willing to embrace the programme, even after he discovered that the gay lifestyle he follows, was absolutely condemned by Islam without exception. It seems the thing that gave him most peace was doing salat, and self-reflection which allowed him to deal with the traumatic grieving process of the loss of his father.

I'm just watching the first part now...
and I'm ashamed to say that I've always thought pot-bellied, bald cab drivers to be jolly and asexual. That dude is just nasty.
