Default The Dog Whisperer

Has anyone seen this guy on TV? It's pretty amazing. They have these dogs who are seriously cases... going crazy on people, tearing up anything they can get their teeth on. Or sometimes they're insecure and freak out about the smallest rustle of wind.

So this guy, Cesar Millan (from México!) comes along and it's almost like magic, usually within only one day (more like an hour or two) the dogs are behaving themselves. Or those that walk with their tails between their legs and hid all day are out sniffing around and exploring.

But the best part is, it isn't magic of course, it's just understanding how dogs behave and speaking their language.

i like his philosophy. i get fed up with dogs ill-trained by their owners. yappy jumpy dogs are like kids with no discipline- a nuisance for everyone, even if they're good at heart. i prefer dogs with a purpose, anyway, like farm dogs. (who are *much* better behaved, as a rule of thumb, than their household counterparts)

Not only that, they're happier and more fulfilled.

Today Cesar was dealing with a hybrid dog, half something, half dingo. It looked like one of the hardest cases. The discipline when the dog was walking wasn't the problem, it was when they took it to the vet. The poor thing hadn't been properly treated in years because it'd be hysterical as soon as it went into to the examination room.

Cesar was bleeding all over the place by the time it was over, but they managed to carry out all the tests and clip the nails. The next time though, was without incident! I think that's a lesson more on why not to breed wild dogs into domestic ones.

Anyway, part of the reason I like this show so much is that I think it's full of lessons that are just as applicable to the human world as they are to the canine world.

Hey, good thread idea, Variable.

I must admit, I really enjoy watching this show. Cesar seems to be really talented and has a natural intuition of how dogs think and work, but more importantly the common pitfalls handlers fall into. Like he always says himself "I rehabilitate dogs, I train the humans."
