I can't believe no one has mentioned Sholay. Best film of all time.

It's.. kind of hard to explain. Kishore Kumar stars in it, with Pran as the evil menacing villain. It's freaking hilarious. Trust me!

I knew it was a classic and everything and everyone's always singing its songs. But i had totally forgotten about what the story was and I saw someone watching it the other day and amitabh and rekha totally had an extra-marital affair and slept together and everything.

I thought kabhi alvida na kehna was bad.

the problem with old movies is the stupidity of it all. you had dharmendra wrestling tigers, or pulling down helicopters by rope lol. or everyone would jump off of the roofs (terrace for you fobs) of houses and land perfectly on their two feet. Ya i had seen them when growing up when i was a kid, i think we were one of the first people on the block to own a vcr. those old pop-up ones that weighed like 100lbs. and if it had a remote control, it was a wired remote control. let me think, hmm a movie like shaan was clearly a rip off of the old 1970's james bond movies. and then of course there was qurbani. even though i watched it as a kid, i watched it again years later. i realized that the last half of the movie was based on an american novel, i had to read in high school. the american novel was set in the 1800's though. it was about a bank robber who had to hide his identity, and then his secret came out, when a kid was locked in a bank vault and couldnt get out, but the bank robber knew how to break the vault combination locks and thus his secret came out. exact same thing in qurbani.

or take a an old 1970's movie like 'ankhiyon ke jharokhon se' (from my eyelashes). it's a copy of another old 1970's hollywood movie, 'love story'. an exact copy in fact, scene for scene. i have never seen love story, but i was talking about this with a freind of mine, and she told me she had seen it and when we compared the two movies, it was quite shocking indeed LOL. but ya ankhiyon ke jharokohon se is a very nice movie, very beautiful movie, mostly because of how sad it is. but its still an exact daam copy.

YouTube - Akhiyon ke Jhrokhon se

oh ya and if you put on 'churaliya' another old early 1970's movie, my dad will start singing along to it LOL. a freind of mine told me, his uncle had scerendaded his wife that song, everyday, so she would marry him hahahaha.

but if you really want some laughs, go watch 'disco dancer' LOLL

sometimes i watch those indian programs on the early morning weekends, and they show some clips from some old movies, or i watch like five minutes of it on my cable's 'on demand', and i do start to think, thats the india i remember seeing whenever i visited in my youth. Now alot of it has completely changed.

especially bombay's taj mahal hotel, or centaur hotel. or Bombay's victoria train station, or the famous juhu beach up near andheri. with its carnival atmosphere, you often see this in those old movies. (yes, when i was a lil kid in 1983, my now 73 year old uncle took me for a camel ride at night on juhu beach).

(for anyone too young to remember, India was the soviet union's main ally in asia, and bollywood movies were and still are very popular in russia and the rest of the former soviet union)

Wow uncle jee, you totally claimed your spot with this thread.
I can picture you sitting on your couch with your feet on the chai table, a mug of chai in one hand and the nook of a hookah in the other. While a plate of biscuits rests on your abnormally large belly. Grunting in reponse when the kids and/or their kids address you.
aww.

I saw Laawaris a few weeks back thought it was pretty good.
Are those initial Aamer Khan and Salman Khan movies considered old too?
