The premise is basically the same throughout the movies, as well as in the book series. A group of people, usually teenagers, are about to embark on a journey or vehicular transportation of some kind. One of the group has a premonition of a large catastrophe, that will prove deadly to most of the people present. To date, the events in the movies so far have included a plane flight explosion, a road trip pile-up, and a roller coaster ride falling apart. In the books, there has been a nightclub cave-in, a metro bombing, a train collision, an elevator crash, a yacht sinking, a killer's death list, and an (unconfirmed) plane crash on a beach. In the comic books, the beginning accident involved several explosions at a hotel. The person with the premonition then tries to prevent the accident from happening by alerting the others. Since no one else has any way of knowing of the coming tragedy, practically none of them believe the visionary. Usually only a small group leave with the visionary, either because they were forced by the visionary, they were concerned about the visionary or his or her words, or they were forced to leave by others for causing a disturbance.

Soon after, the visionary sees they're helpless to stop the disaster, which happens exactly as foreseen, killing everyone who had not left. All the survivors see the visionary was right, and their view about them changes drastically. Over the next few days, weeks or months, the survivors begin to die in a series of bizarre freak accidents. Usually, the survivors will begin dying in the same order they would have, had they been present at the original disaster. The accidents are usually extremely gruesome. The death causes range from the common to the bizarre and elaborate (e.g. hanging by a rope, killed by a nail gun.) By the end of the movie, the visionary manages to find a way out of the dilemma they are in, having salvaged two or three of the others (see Final Girl), but there is always at least one final unexpected death at the end of the film, usually with a comedic undertone.

Here's a question: since you say you don't like gore and violence, why did you see all 3 Final Destination movies? The answer is that you want to see what kind of deaths happen in the movies. That's the bloodthirsty human nature that's in each and every one of us.

I've been involved with CG and special FX for a long time, and I see a lot of movies that otherwise don't catch my interest only because there's a few scenes here and there which I scrutinize to sift out the threshold between real life and CG.

If I really was as sick and perverted as you're claiming I am, then I would have seen all the Saw movies [I've seen none of them], Hostel [seen neither] and so on.

bro i dont think this is why people like horror movies. I think people watch them for the same reasons that they watch any other kind of movie

There are pure gore movies out there and a subculture of people who enjoy them, but most horror movies are not like that, even the very violent ones.

I'm a die-hard Final Destination fan, but even I will admit they are not the best movies in the world. However, they are largely entertaining. Not to mention the special effects in them are top notch. Heck, I think the freeway accident in FD2 was nominated for some award because of special effects.



*edit* another reason why I like the FD movies is because they are very though-provoking. What would go through your mind if you knew that you were going to die really soon?

I didn't think the final destination movies were that gory... granted I covered my eyes before anything actually happened...


but I don't think it's at all comparable to the Saw movies.. I've never seen em but they looked pretty sick. FD is just really cheesy teen horror. It's like watching Jeepers Creepers or Scream. The sheer stupidity is what makes it amusing.

Well it sounds like you've seen it more times than I have *shrug* I saw the second one on TV so it was edited and I don't remember the 1st one being that gory.

ive seen every saw movie. they are sick and whoever thought of those plots has some serious mental issues, but it doesnt stop me from wantin to see what happens next

ive seen all teh final destination movies too, theyre pretty gay.
