I saw Kudha Ke Liye. Its a decent movie, but pretty sad.

well im a history buff, and the history of the sub-continent is very facinating. its a shame that bollywood doesnt make more movies about the history of the sub-continent. i was told that most historical accounts are made for tv serial dramas on india's state run 'doordarshan' (a far view). What a shame, because those stories are very fascinating. I never knew about the story of Manghal Pandey, most historians prefer to focus on the last mughal emperor, bahadur shah zafar, when dealing with the 1857 mutiny. I even saw a photograph of the old man in delhi's lal qila / red fort museaum. But there's alot of very fantastic historical accounts that would make fantastic movies, but bollywood prefers making stupid sappy girly love chic flicks for aunty housewives, and thier sappy teenage daughters who will only end up living in arranged marriages.
one of my favorite stories is that or razia illtutmesh of the slave dynasty, that pre-dated the Mughal empire, around 1000 years ago. I once saw the end of the movie at a freinds cabbie dhaba restuarant a few years ago. it was on the sattelite channel. it was a horrible 1960's esque style movie, with alot of bad acting, and you can tell most of it was filmed inside a studio. it reminded me of those old 1960's movies of elizibeth taylor, or charlton heston, like spartacus or cleopatra. and the movie 'razia sultan' was filmed in 1983! ya i saw it when i was a kid, but i couldnt remember the movie. the story goes that the queen, sultana, had a love affair with her black slave, that led to a scandal. So instead of using an african actor, they had dharmendra painted up in black face and stuck an afro wig on him. thats how horrible this thing was.

Re: Does Anyone Here Like Indian Movies? :)
Jodaa Akbar
I liked it. Mainly 'cause of Hrithik. He did well.
My favourite part of the whole movie is near the beginning when Jodaa tells him her conditions and he comes out of her tent and makes the announcement that he'll follow them. I really liked the way he delivered the line about having, like her, been born on that land. Wow... Hrithik is a fine actor; he should be a bit more discriminating about which roles he takes.
I saw the movie with my parents and even though my dad said it was historically inaccurate (because those damn Indians are always screwing history up in their movies), he liked that part too. He was like "Wah...bohut acha!"
Jashn-e-Bahaara is a good song.

Re: Does Anyone Here Like Indian Movies? :)
I saw Salaam e Ishq for the first time recently. The film was meh, a bit Love Actually-like.
The only thing that got me excited was that they filmed some of the music sequences in Oxford, right in front of the library where I used to go study, and literally 2 mins away from my old college. It was so funny to see troupes of colourful dancers shimmying underneath Hertford Bridge and dancing around outside the Bodleian
Oh and I like the title song, but that was about it.

Well i dont know about 'those damn indians' messing up history
Because I read that AG hired a research team of historians and scholars to guide him on this film and help him keep things historically accurate. But maybe your dad found a glitch
So you're saying a family can sit and watch and not expect any besharmness?

Subtitles are sooooooooo annoying
But I guess they help out those who don't understand the language......even if half the time the subtitles are clearly wrong

Re: Dose Anyone Here Like Indian Movies? :)
So Guru was insanely long. I haven't finished it, got about 20 minutes left I think.
good things
the relationship between the husband and wife
the set
story
bad things
acting
the random kissing scene
lenghty film
songs
i loved the fact that it's so different than most of bollywood. cuz the people have an arranged marriage and stuff and they show how they grow together. pretty cute.

Has anyone seen Black and White?? I saw part of it on youtube. It looked sort of interesting...not the typically desi movie.

I grew up on them, with my mom translating.....my favorite was the actor who played Lakan in that famous movie. Good stuff
