Lost: Missing Pieces are 13 two- to three-minute stories of compelling, new, never-before-seen moments from the hit television show LOST. These newly-created scenes (not deleted scenes from previous episodes) reveal answers and new details about your favorite characters. For each story, we leave it up to the fans to figure out where these pieces fit into the overall mythology. The new stories are from the same creative team responsible for the series and feature the show's main actors in stories that have all the compelling values that make LOST one of the most popular dramas on television around the world.

I'm thinking the show is gonna go on a 5 year long hiatus after the 4th season because of the writers' strike

did they complete the season before the strike? if so, lost's ratings will go through the roof, since it'll be one of the the only shows with new episodes on tv.

i still dont think itd be as much of a shoot up

for one, Lost is one of the most 'different' shows on tv.

it does not necessarily appeal to the same audience who are used to watching Ugly Betty, Greys Anatomy, or The Office..and that's been established from the very start...

coupled with the fact that there's been unusual delays in season/episode/story progression from the very start (which caused a lot of regulars to stop watching also), and the veryyyyyyyyy apparent potential that the show is most likely going to stop again mid-season due to the writers strike...well...not very a good chance once again

if anything, i REALLY HOPE the makers have thought this over and over and over...and see it as a good opportunity to boost their rankings and hopefully take advantage of it and dont throw it away

as "different" as you think it is, lost has extreme mass appeal. it's not exactly "my kind" of show, but i love it; and i know that's the case with plenty of other people (and yes, even those who like ugly betty, grey's anatomy or, like myself, the office). there's not many people i know who've seen say, the first 4 or 5 episodes chronologically and haven't been hooked.

what do you mean by "unusual delays in season/episode/story progression"? the breaks between episodes are pretty much fixed by renting the DVDs (which is how i initially got into the show -- rented the first two seasons). lost is VERY easy show to get into when you can watch episodes back-to-back-to-back-to-back. of course there's breaks in story progression -- drawing out a plot is pretty much fundamental in every show.

and honestly? i'm hoping the makers DON'T use this to boost their rankings... because one of the easiest ways to do this would be to have more "stand alone" episodes, rather than ones that encourage plot progression. that way, people would feel a bit more comfortable to jump in and, if they like it, they can go back and get the DVDs.

shrug.

yeah, but that's just SOME people. i'm saying that i've read articles etc that concluded that from the very start, MOST of the same people who watch tv, specifically most people who watch those other shows are not really that into Lost type shows at all.

you probably didnt watch each episode like the day of its broadcast or within a few days of its broadcast, etc.. because if youd have watched it like that, you'd have gotten pretty darn frustrated...for a long time it seemed that there was absolutely no progression in storyline..just filler type stuff..and the producers at one point admitted somewhere, i think, that a very short storyline has been exagurated to lenghten the show (they did this i think initially after the show began to pick up..and i read stuff on it after fans who'd been following regularly like myself began to start giving it up cuz the story woudlnt progress...so it began to come out that yeah, the story isnt really that complicated or long to begin with, theyre just making it out to be so in order to keep more people interested for as long as it sticks around)

yeah you're right. it's possible the show might really start sucking if they rush things to make $$$ and keep the audience interested.

it is possible to rent/watch dvds but again, given the complex nature of the show, and the fact that you have to retain stuff from past shows..little things in order to be able to keep up with relevant things that come up later..i dont know if most people would be up for that.

i know that dvds mean back to back episodes..but i watched the first season like that..and i loved the show...but i still thought they revealed info much too slowly..and the average person who watches tv is not patient enough to want to sit through that...not to mention that it's nothing like the typical drama/mystery show on tv. and it doesnt really have a rapidly progressing romance story..the romantic stuff is too passive/insigficant to appeal to the masses

anyway i know by first hand experience that not too many people watch Lost at all..i mean, just do a mental breakdown of all your friends..i can honestly say i know like 5 people who actually watch Lost or have stayed interested in Lost throughout the past few years..most of the people I know who are regular Lost watchers are online aka Islamica.
and even on here there's very few people who do watch it..compared to the other shows people are really into.

but then again, never rely on islamica or islamicans for accurate info :P, especially not statistics related stuff, right :P

the future of this show remains to be seen.. let's see how many people even come back to it. again you cant forget that we're not even guarenteed an entire complete next season..

people say they're going to stop watching it because the storyline sometimes progresses too slowly, but they don't stop. they keep watching to see what happens. I don't know anyone who hasn't gotten hooked once they've started watching.
