as salaamu alaikum,

just saw it yesterday... defintely a must see. some graphic parts, but it shows the life of the majority of india's population for what it really is.

and of course at the end during the credits, they did they obligatory song and dance routine

Really good -- surprised me with the story and the style. Anil Kapoor:

I don't know if we all saw the same movie.......it was definitely an enjoyable movie, but not the best or even all that great. The beginning to middle were excellent, while they were still highlighting the life of the poor and these two boys' naive and then ingenious attempts to escape their situation. That was truly heartbreaking to watch. Once the love story started taking precedence towards the end, it was all downhill and predictable.

Holy crap, this movie is really gooooooooood. Its TOTALLY a bollywood movie disguised as an independant-artsy-hollywood-film though.

I personally thought those questions they asked him seemed easy though.

I read how some of those child actors were actually taken from the slums themselves. I wonder what happened to them, did they send them back, or put them in school and help their families financially? The character of mumbai was probably the most breakthrough character itself though.

Kinda sad that though they are depicting such ajbect poverty - those who are benefitting from it, are not the poor people of India, but the rich who arrived to expolit them through a movie. Same thing that happened to the slum kids in the movie; same thing that happened in history with colonialism; and now today with Foriegn Direct Investments and Transnational Corporations.

Some things will never change.
You must be on crack boy. It has nothing to do with bollywood scum! How dare you. There is a difference between indian movies (bollywood) and Movies made About india (hollywood), and you see it here. Thank god no indians were producing of directing it, otherwise, we would have ass shaking, goat faced men (emitabh types) in tight jeans running around saving the world from pakistani jihad mongering liver eaters, etc.

I really liked the fact that this showed the real india, and what its like for the majority of the people there. The cinematograper, the director, and the producer had a great idea. And this isn't an independent film, I'd say.

It makes them look cool, because none of the big studios initially picked up the filming tab, just some other rich people did. Thats why its called an independent.

Although, I did appreciate Mr. A.R. Rahman's services. He is a genius composer and would have created amazing music no matter what culture/country he would have been brought up in. There are a few people born like him.

this movie is not worth an Oscar. sorry. in my opinion the only reason people are getting so hyped up about it is that it's about "India." Everyone is always crazy about India and this is the first movie that isn't about "love gurus" and musicals. It's the mainstream western moviegoer's first real glimpse of anything remotely realistic, plus it's different from what anyone over here has ever seen. oh, and don't forget the cliche love story. It's good, but it's not as good as everyone's making it out to be.

oh, and the people criticizing it for showing India's poverty are idiots. they say the poverty in the movie is "romanticized." really? i think Bollywood romanticizes India's poverty, this movie does a better job at being realistic than anything I've ever seen.

That article was very sad to read. Thing is whenever I go overseas, and offer money to a crippled person with no limbs on the street, my relatives try to stop me and say that this money will not go to them, it will not better them, it will go to their boss, who will get rich, and they will be wandering the streets the next day and forever. I didnt believe my relatives, but now I do. I just wish they werent right.
