Babel - a few diff. stories that are some how connected to each other. Sad movie and stupid ending. Overall - it was ok.

Re: Movies Watched Recently
Rana's Wedding
a palestinian film about a 17 year old girl who wants to marry her boyfriend instead of one of the men her father has approved. she goes on a quest through checkpoints and whatnot to find him.
it was okay, but went by really slowly. the plot was unimpressive, the characters were poorly developed, and there wasn't even very much commentary on the difficulty of life under occupation, which was supposed to be the point of the movie.

Carne Trémula ("Live Flesh")
absolutely RIDICULOUS-- in a good way. it was so hilariously weird and over the top that i can't even describe it without giggling
only Almodóvar can successfully mix wheelchair olympics, births on autobuses, and stalkers who volunteer in a daycare center. javier bardem is awesome in this movie.

i didnt like it that much, either. i thought the interweaving of the stories was forced, and some could have been done away with altogether (the Japanese girl, for example. there were only two memorable parts of that entire subplot)
Amores Perros (same director) was better, but also had a weird ending. i have yet to see 21 Grams (also same director)

a lot of the characters were frustratingly stupid and got themselves into trouble of their own accord. i mean, what were those little moroccan boys thinking? what on earth was the mexican nanny thinking? and i know her nephew was drunk and whatnot, but who in their right mind DOES that??? and what the heck was the japanese businessman doing in morocco in the first place?
grrr

i felt bad for them too, but what kind of idiot plays target practice with a bus full of people? i dont care how bad your aim is or how far away the bus is... anyone over the age of 2 should know better than that.
didnt they shoot at it a couple of times, too? "aw man, we didnt hit the bus full of people the last three times we tried. i have better aim, let ME try"

Re: Movies Watched Recently
In Bruges
Brilliant, freaking brilliant. Loved the dialogue. It's a very dark yet humorous original movie about two hitmen sent to Bruges for an unknown assignment. It's not a dumb shootemup action movie like I thought it would be. I was never a fan of Collin Ferrell but he really impressed me with this role. Definitely going to get this on DVD.
