Re: Movies Watched Recently
assalamu alaykum
Perfume, the story of a murderer - i could barely watch the vile shots at the beginning of the film as I was eating. Mr.z hated it, he hated the guy lol , but I thought it was a great film (though I missed 1 or 2 plot twists due to censorship, but i read about it later on wiki.) I felt sorry for him, didnt think he mum tried to kill him though, as the narrator said she'd had several still births etc so probably didn't think he was breathing? Maybe I got it wrong.

Re: Movies Watched Recently
"Osama" --complete waste of 83 minutes
while i wasnt exactly expecting a cheerful movie, this turned out to be nothing more than shameless propaganda bulls**t. i should have expected that, considering how many awards it won.
here's the knowledge i gained from this movie: all afghan men have long beards and wear turbans, all afghan women wear these blue sheet things they throw on when the taliban are coming, all madrassas teach little boys to be terrorists, and all old afghan men have 3 wives who they keep under house arrest, and enjoy bedding preteen girls. also, all muslims are raving lunatics who shoot poor western journalists for fun.
UGHHHHH

I saw it for free as well, but I have to disagree, I heard the ending was lame but I LOVED it. I thought it was a proper ending, rather than the couple somehow defeat the Strangers. (I mean seriously, how many times have we seen that? Its so PC and boring). I also liked the lack of gore, the music, the tension building, and the acting. Overall, very well done and actually scary! I went home that night scared some dude with a sack on his head was going to knock on the door!!!!!

To each his own about the movie, but I'm of the sentiment that to say "Iron Man made Muslims look bad" is to say "Muslims are terrorists". It made terrorists look bad, and like I said before, the terrorists aren't even the worst people in the movie. They're not the "true" villains at all.
I don't remember one overt reference to Islam or Muslims, unless you want to consider them speaking in Arabic a reference to Islam. Or maybe that it was Afghani terrorists? I wasn't aware that everyone in Afghanistan is a Muslim terrorist or even that everyone who speaks Arabic is a Muslim terrorist.
I think the statement is an attempt at an egregious leap, and completely unnecessary unless you are simply looking for something to dislike.
Oh yeah, I'm watching Runaway Jury in my English class right now. I only got to see the first half, but so far it's pretty decent. I never would have thought anyone could make a movie about a jury entertaining, but then again Gene Hackman is freaking awesome.

You should see "12 Angry Men" the 1957 version. The whole thing pretty much takes place inside a jury room.

i haven't seen Ironman yet, but i think when people say "It made Muslims look bad" what they're worried about is the fact that non-muslims already think Muslims = terrorist and movies like this (i'm guessing) only add fuel to the fire. it's a stereotype that's unfortunately very common, you know?
