Re: Movies Watched Recently
The Last Legion- umm... I haven't read the book (I didn't even know there was a book), but I don't really like the idea of Caesar having been the original owner of Excalibur. But still, kind of cool mix of legend and history, I guess.
I don't get why Romulus is Caesar (he's just a kid; why can't his dad be Caesar?) and why Merlin can't save the day from the very beginning if he's a sorceror.

Re: Movies Watched Recently
The Cell - This movie amazes me every time I see it. One of the most beautiful and artistic films ever made. The cast isnt that great, but the get through the material without making you cringe.

The Darwin Awards was a funny movie. But the deaths were kind of crappy.

The Barefoot Contessa- 1954 film with Ava Gardner. Jaded movie star finally finds true love only to find it's not what it appeared. Most of the movie is really slow and boring, it gets juicier by the end but then she's dead which you already knew since the movie begins with her funeral. Script needed some serious improvement.

Umrao Jaan (the new one)---disappointment. Beautiful costumes, beautiful sets, beautiful girl, but horrible acting, especially by Abishek. I wanted to throw my show at his wooden face. Blech. Aishwarya was so-so, needs improvement. Badly.

Ah! No wonder I mixed them up. similar names. What's City of God about?

Zodiac- good movie, frustrating ending. *semi spoiler ahead* I don't know what the actual details were, but it seemed like the police gave up after a few years and didn't have skilled people on the team to figure out what the cartoonist did. And why couldn't they arrest him with the stuff they had? People get arrested for way less than that. Or have constant surveillance on the guy, eventually he's going to mail a letter. And that constant phone ringing was so annoying, most annoying ring tone ever! Pedophiles should be jailed for life/death penalty.
The Cell- it's kinda like Silence of the Lambs but way freakier, it was interesting how they combined the sci fi stuff/psychology/serial killer. I liked Jennifer Lopez's curly hairstyle. She needs to go back to her natural skin color though. The part where she's in her world and wearing dark lipstick and looking goth reminded me of that 80s movie, Legend, where the princess gets captured by that Satan guy and she has that same makeup/look.

I just watched this too! I agree it was frustrating, but I believe that's pretty much how it went down. After the cartoonist published his book, the police did start taking him seriously sort of. I always wonder if these type of crimes had existed in our time, when we have all our spiffy crime analysis techniques, would we be able to catch these ppl?
Also saw - The Bridge: creepy and haunting! Watching actual footage of people killing themselves is disturbing. But my favorite part is watching the OTHER people on the bridge, silently reacting to the people jumping off/trying to, and then hearing what was going through their minds at the time. It's an interesting portrait of the impact suicide has on everyone left behind. It was especially odd that most of the deceased relative's weren't surprised. But favorite reaction: "There was a message on the answering machine. If he had only waited a day longer he would have had a job interview at Game Stop."

Great Expectations- 1946 black and white version of the Charles Dickens novel. I read the Great Illustrated classic version when I was a kid, loved it. I read the actual novel in high school, good book, the movie drags on but they did a good job of bringing the scenes to life. Whoever illustrated the Great Illustrated classics books did a great job too, the movie looked like the drawings in motion. The kids who played Estella and Pip were great, but the adults were wrong for the part. Pip is supposed to be 20 and he looks near 40. He looked like a leprechaun in that fancy suit, I know he's supposed to look like a simple country boy but still. Estella is supposed to be young and beautiful but she was average and 35. Miss Havisham was awesome. Convict is great too. The book is way better though.

seriously. 15 min to tap a phone call??? It should be 5 seconds by now. Nerdy technologists need to work harder. And satellites should be able to follow a person's every move. I think that only happens on Alias though.

did you see deja vu? i like how even in their wildest dreams, the hottest technology the writers could think up was still flawed. wth.
or don't they track ppl in the new die hard as well?
i like in all the csi shows where the make dna analysis sooo easy. u just scan in some sort of bio data (haha) and then it comes up on screen blinking "match" ahhhhhhhhahahaha.
License to Wed - dumb dumb DUMB. But John Krasinski is awesome. Does a lot of the same stuff here as in the Office which rocks b/c Robin Williams gets as increasingly retarded as the premise of this movie, and John's character's looks are great stupidity killers. it's a wonder he doesn't just walk off and leave the whole mess and go find Pam to make fun of them all.
