Yeah, it was showing at an arty cinema place. I liked the storyline in her book and she knows how to form the characters from names to complete personalities so that a reader will feel as if he/she knows the characters personally but her writing style was simple. I didn't like her any less for that, just noticed it a lot. The film was very good and portrayed everything in the book successfully. It starts off when she already has 2 kids though, so you miss a great big chunk out of it.

The Philadelphia Story- I was told it was good but thought it was crappy. The plot was a mess.

Lord of the Rings- the first one. I've never actually watched an entire LOTR movie. But I've heard they're awesome so I tried and I got to the part where Frodo has to leave town with the ring and I found the entire movie up til then to be very boring and didn't want to watch anymore. Is it just me or was it really boring up til then? Does it get better?? When? Maybe I've outgrown fantasy movies. I loved Pan's Labyrinth though, but that was a mix of brutal reality and fantasy. And I still like watching fantasy movies that I watched as a kid.

Troy- it was on tv all weekend, the one with Orlando Bloom, Brad Pitt. It was pretty good. the fight scenes were good, Brad and others acted well, the actresses weren't annoying, they just had to look pretty and worried. the poor slave girl was in one raggedy outfit for most of the movie.

You found LOTR boring?!?!

actually the first one is slightly non-active, the third one is my favourite. I'd advise you to keep watching, if you get to the end of the first and you don't feel like watching the second, it's not for you!

Troy blew chunks. That annoying music was the worst part.

Saw the Return..well some of it. It was so boring I fell asleep...only good thing about it was Sarah Michelle Gellar.

Rescue Dawn. it was good, nothing great though.
one of those movies where the guy is stranded on a god forsaken island/forest whatever.
exactly like Tom Hanks' Castaway. sort of.

ps, I like Christian Bale. a lot. maybe that's why i liked the movie

Is the Philadelphia Story the one with Katherine Hepburn? I think they remade it into High Society with Grace Kelly.

As with LOTR, I would recommend reading the books especially if you found it boring. The beginning film (FOTR) sets up the story and as it is a trilogy, and yes it is a little slow to begin with as each film is not complete in itself. But trust me it does get better. LOTR is all about love, not just the romantic kind, (the neat thing about LOTR is that there isn't one damsel in distress in all of the books or films either). The love I'm talking about is based on loyalty, gallantry, patience, kindness, faithfulness, compassion, courage - not mere bravado - perseverance and the willingness to lay one's life down for another to overcome evil so that good may prevail and life can go on. It's rare for a film to celebrate these qualities nowadays, and especially rare not to indulge in cursing or sex. I would highly recommend it as there are many life lessons portrayed here. Give it another try Moonstar, and start afresh when you are not tired. Just remember the ending is the beginning of the Two Towers and so forth. Make yourself a nice cup of tea and some sort of wonderful cake ( I know what a good cook you are ) and enjoy!

Yeah, LOTR is awesome, awesome, awesome.
But don't worry; it grows on you. First time I saw the first movie, when it had just come out, I fell asleep in the theatre.

once, we invited the imam of our masjid to our house for dinner, and right as he walked in the door and gave my dad salams he said, "turn on the tv! turn on the tv! LOTR is on! "
my dad, being the typical fob parent who has no idea whatsoever of any recent movies,
called and asked me if i knew what on earth the imam was talking about

(i was already watching it in the other room )

As far as trilogies go, I'd have to stick with back to the future, the godfather, and star wars.
