You guys *do* realize that we all love Got5onit ? He adds flavor to Islamica. Even those who hate him, love to hate him. It's characters like him that make Islamica great....such as Modern Muslim, Dr. Imran Physio, even Kona Silat I guess (although I hate him ), and some other great Islamicans that have graced these forums...the "characters'...the personas....

Nah, his schtick gets super old quick. Kona is at least somewhat clever about it.

One thing I find strange about GOT5's rants is how he always says "100k" like it's a million dollars, but then everyone else jumps in and pooh-pooh's 100k as "not much." Yeah, it's not a billion dollars, but 100k is not a bad salary at all. If someone has trouble making ends meet on 100k - even with wife & kids - they're not being financially responsible. People make ends meet every day on MUCH less than that.

well since my post was removed in another topic displaced ill ask you here then, since you at least have been civil with me, so im willing to pay attention to at least what you have to say about this. If a girl demand's a man earning $100k salary a year, which is alot of money, especially with this really bad economy, the housing market gone bad, heck i read in yahoo news you could now practically buy a mansion for only cool million bucks believe it or not, if a girl going to sell her self at that price, and thats the lease a man pays to have a wife for life, then shouldnt she then do whatever she told by him? i mean he is paying that lease, shouldnt she do what her tells her, wear whatever he wants her to wear and i do mean ANYTHING, have his meals cooked and ready for him, no back talking, no drama, no fighting and arguing, and most of all nookie whenever he wants it, on call 24/7? You pay for your car, what if your car decides it doesnt feel like letting you drive it today? i mean you paid for it right? ok thats a machine it cant feel anything. what if your pet dog doesnt follow commands and bark and roll over? its a pretty expensive dog too, a french poodle for example, i mean you paid for that dumb dog, its yours, you own it, shouldnt that dog then do what its told? how can indian/pakistani chics whine and cry about how they are treated like maids and then sell themselves off to the highest bidder then? whose fault is that then when the guy starts thinking hey i paid for her. You know what i would pay for? a baby's mama and thats it. In a situation like that, I will not and refuse to garuntee any sort of monagamy on my part, but i will promise infedelity, because i only need her for a baby's mama - i can have a relationship with a kaffir who actually gives a daam about me.

While I can't say I agree with much of your post, it does remind me of something that came up with my parents when I got married, the concept of the mahr. I just couldn't get behind it, it just didn't feel like something we should participate in. Despite the insistence of my parents, we went without it and we've had a pretty wonderful marriage so far. I don't know, it just felt like I'd be "buying" my wife, which is a thought I never wanted to have in my marriage.

Astaghfiurllah, you really cant get any lower. The fact that you're entertaining such thoughts (and then voicing them to the world) is enough to suggest you're at a complete lack of ghairat. Read up on some Muslim characters, and learn.

I sincerely hope that iA one day you can get past your humourous idea of money/material being the basis for such a sacred union as marriage, and realize that there is much, much more to it than what a man brings home at the end of the day. And I must add that just the idea of that (whether you're serious about it or its just a source of amusement for you) is incredibly insulting to me personally, being a muslim woman, and I'm sure to other women as well.

There's a lot more to life GOTFIVEONIT, and I hope you can discover all there is before its too late.

Mehr is a requirement in an Islamic marriage. You can negotiate the amount of mehr, but you have to pay SOMETHING to the bride. That's just the way it is. You're not "buying" her. It's for her long term financial security, due to the way property is divided in Islamic law. It's not necessarily payable up front either, you can make it payable at the time of divorce, should that situation arise.

If you're upset about the amount of mehr the girl is requesting, you should look for girls in a different socio-economic bracket.

I don't know why I'm even bothering, you're just gunna whine and complain about how girls should never request anything from the husband ever. You'd rather blame other people for your problems and continue in your misery than take responsibility and improve your life.

Not your post, I was refering to GOT5's post. If you and your wife both agreed, that's one thing, but really you still should have given her something. If you even got her a wedding ring, that could count as mehr. To get married and give her nothing though, to my knowledge that's not acceptable, even when both parties agree.
