Sidi Ustadh Mohammed Daniel,

I sometimes read and post on a popular forum on the internet and yesterday I was shocked to find that a person had posted a link to a sport video that should not only showed a man in shorts above the knee, but also young women dressed in short skirts and t-shirts. I wrote a polite note telling the brother that he should not post such links that show the ‘awrah’. My post was deleted and these were some of the comments that were posted which I found fairly sad because they are responsible people in their communities and one is even a translator of Islamic texts.

You live in a very censored country, don't you?
I'm sorry if my insensitivity toward your beliefs offends you. But guess what - your religious wars, jihads, crusades, inquisitions, censoring of free speech, brainwashing of children, murdering of albinos, forcing girls into underage marriages, female genital mutilation, stoning, pederasty, homophobia, and rejection of science and reason offend ME. So I guess we're even.

Isn't this suspect...
You may shoot me with your words,
You may cut me with your eyes,
You may kill me with your hatefulness,
But still, like air, I'll rise.

you saw on the internet a picture of a woman in shorts and a man in shorter shorts... hmm.... you know on the internet there are much worse awrah offenses than shorts right? Are you trying to tell us something about your internet searching habits?
Behold the gaseous stench of Skeletor's breakfast burrito!

It is not about that. It is about posting haraam images in a Muslim forum and people not having a problem with that.

It would be one thing if it was straight up porno. But you're complaining about the presence of videos of people in shorts and miniskirts. In most parts of the world, people wear those things!

Oh... I hadn't thought of that. Now I get why people would be offended by such videos!

So I just read the response. Turns out the wise responder didn't even look at the video himself. Had a woman do it for him and report back the findings. So, applying critical theory, am I to interpret this as the suggestion that women get to do things that are sins for men? Or does the responder believe women are inferior and therefore unworthy of jannah? Or does he believe they're weaker and will just look anyway, so why not?

I'm sorry, but if your religion depends so much on ending sins of lust and sex, you might want to begin with human trafficking, sexual slavery, and prostitution. Also the fact that the "wise" man whose response you posted appears to hate women, apparently to the point that he had a woman commit the sin of looking at people in shorts and skirts so he wouldn't have to sin himself and therefore have any idea of what was going on in the video he was responding to.

As long as this kind of crap is going on, you'll have to forgive me for not being at all concerned about shorts and mini-skirts.

I don't think yuo are in the wrong to be concerned that your post asking other Muslims to respect the awrah was deleted, especially when it was on a Muslim forum (this would be a bit obnoxious if you were saying you were mad that your post was deleted from a secular forum.) However, my question is: what do you want us to do about it? Contact the moderator and ask why they deleted your post.

The 'wise responder' happens to be a very respectable Shaykh and he did not need to view the clip because it would have meant him looking at the opposite gender which if a female does is not a problem if they are all dressed properly.

Your other statements are not even worth a reply and you should not think suspect or bad of your Muslim brothers.

why not? Nobody is perfect and even sheikhs sin (sometimes more than others). You shouldn't think badly about anyone but that doesnt mean that we need to respect everything a sheikh does just because they are a sheikh.

As I said before, what would you like us to do about this? Personally, I don't think its that big of a deal. It's a young woman playing a sport in a t-shirt. Turn on your television and you will see a lot worse. If she were pole dancing, that would be a big deal.

i'm not trying to attack you or make you feel bad (other members will take care of that). I just want to know your motivation for letting us know and I wanted to simply, and gently, say that there is worse in this life than a woman in a t-shirt. Perhaps if the board didnt want to take it down, simply say "brothers, just so you know, the video shows a woman in a t-shirt so look at your own risk." That way the person knows and has the freedom to look or to not look.

Ah yes, the old he's-Muslim-so-he-can't-possibly-be-bad approach. Its been awhile since I've seen that here. The problem with your response is that the woman was clearly assigned with looking at the opposite gender too, in case you missed the reference to men in shorts. Last I checked, steering others in the path of a sin was a mark against you on the day of judgement.

Are you Muslim and do you know the difference between the scholars about the issue of looking at the opposite sex?

I forced this out of the realm of being a Muslim issue about seven posts ago. It's time for you to start trying to make your case on moral grounds now instead of wimping out and coming in with scholar-A-says-this or scholar-J-is-respected all the time.
