This Ramadan, I tried to read though the entire Qur'an from start to finish over the course of the month. I also kept a journal that I could take notes in and ask questions that I had from what Ive been reading. I wanted to start this thread so that people could ask questions and so that I could get a few of my questions answered. :)

1) 2:60 and 7:160 mention the 12 springs that Moses gushed forth that became the oasis' of 12 tribes. Can you tell me where these springs are and what tribes they sustained?

more to come

Close by the Ka'bah lies the well called Zam
Zam. Its origin, too, goes back to the Prophet
Abraham’s time. It was this well which sprang up
miraculously to save the life of the infant Ishmael.

In the words of the Bible:
And God heard the voice of the boy; and the
angel of God called to Hagar out of heaven,
and said to her: ‘What ails you, Hagar? Fear
not, for God has heard the voice of the boy
where he is. Arise, lift up the boy, and hold
him in your hand; for I will make him a great
nation. And God opened her eyes, and she saw
a well of water; and she went, and filled the
bottle with water, and gave the boy a drink.
And God was with the boy; and he grew and
dwelt in the wilderness, and became an archer.
(Genesis 21: 17–20 )

Or, as the Psalmist sings:
As they pass through the dry Valley of Baca,
it becomes a place of springs;
the early rain fills it with pools.
(Psalms 84: 6)

This I found whilst reading up on the prophet mohammed pbuh, does it help at all, I don't know??

I have a question about when Muhammad (saws) had the night journey. When Allah swt told Muhammad (saws) that people were to pray 50 times a day, why did Moses (ra) tell Muhammad (saws) to go ask Allah (swt) to shorten it? Why does Moses (ra) challenge God like that?

I never really understood this.

its not a challenge. and in fact this is what Allah(SWT) wanted as well (five prayers). look at muslims today and the type of lifestyle people live in now. requiring muslims to pray 50 prayers while also working, taking care of other obligations, etc would be extremely tough. no doubt prayer is important and beautiful. but Musa (AS) knew what he was doing. MANY muslims today cant even pray the five prayers let alone 50.

then why would God ask for 50 prayers in the first place? Because he wanted to be challenged???

Im still confused...

I don't think anyone sees it as so & so challenged God.
A request was made and God, out of his infinite mercy, decided to accept this request.
We still receive the reward of 50 prayers a day because each prayer is multiplied by 10.

hmm....I guess I can see it that way but I cant help but wonder why Moses thought it was ok to continue to ask God even after He kept lowering it. Whatever. I guess its really not that important but I was just curious as to what others had to say. :)

i think (im not sure if i fully remember this from what i learned), the reason Prophet Moses (as) asked Prophet Muhammad (saw) to ask Allah (swt) to shorten the prayers was because he had already lived through his prophet hood and knew how hard it was for an ummah to follow a new ruling, especially if it was as hard and time consuming as praying 50 times a day. he knew that it would be hard for Prophet Muhammad (saw) ummah as well, and so he told him to ask Allah to be merciful on his ummah.

Everything that happens, happens because Allah (swt) wants it to happen. therefore, what Prophet Moses (as) said cant be seen as a challenge, it is what Allah (swt) wanted. i think this was meant to show Allah's mercy.

If he actually wanted to be challenged or wanted man to pray five times a day in the first place, then I think another valid question is what would Allah have done had Moses NOT asked for the number of prayers to be reduced?
Baron is back! And he's bringing an overdose of his classic voodoo medicine for all of Islamica's lemmings!

Ooooh thats actually a really good way to look at it. That brings it to light for a me a lot.

On that note, it could also be a way to show you that you are welcome to ask God for things.
