Difference of opinion, It's all good.

Quote

The amount that needs to be paid for Sadaqa al-Fitr is half Sa of wheat or one Sa of barley or date. This, according to modern terms is 2 kilograms.

It is permissible to pay the value of these in cash.
It is preferable to give cash when the above items such as wheat, barley, date, etc are easily available. When these items are scarce, then it is better to give them instead of cash.

The thing is that all rulings for the religion of Islaam are derived from the Quran and Sunnah.

What is firmly established in the Quran and Sunnah is that the Zikaatul Fitr be paid in food.

The ruling from Sunnipath holds no weight unless there is a hadeeth which says that Rasulullaah (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) said that if wheat, barley, and date are easily available, then give cash. If there is no hadeeth to establish the proof, then the ruling is invalid. And dates were easily available during the time of Rasulullaah (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam).

And Allaah knows best.

Furthermore, the statement, "according to modern times is 2 kilograms" is incorrect. Because 1 saa of dates is not equal in weight to 1 saa of wheat. Furthermore, Rasulullaah (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) made paying zikaatul fitr in quantity of food, not weight. They had the technology and means of measuring in weight back then. But a measure of weight was not used, but rather a measure of quantity was used. And again, Allaah knows best.

Yes. Based upon the Quran and Sunnah, you have to give food.
You can give wheat, rice, dates, cereal etc. Just look for somebody needy in your community, and hand them the food the night before Eid. Zikaatul Fitr has to be paid before the Eid prayer. You can view the article in the original post. Here it is again if you need it: http://knowledgeisde...-fitr-fitraana/
