How does one tidy up soap?
if it's in bar form:
don't leave scum on it
don't leave little hairs on it
don't leave it in a puddle of water
don't squish it/make it into creative shapes
make sure it's left in the freakin' soapdish
if it's in a liquid dispenser:
don't leave liquid soap running down the sides of the bottle
don't get anything else on the bottle
don't leave bottle in a puddle of water
don't mess up the dispensing mechanism
don't drop the bottle (because it was likely picked to match the rest of the decor and if it's one of a kind, whoever decorated your bathroom will have a hard time finding another one. even if they won't have a hard time finding another one because it was just from pottery barn or bouclair, they will still be mad at you for putting a dent in it or whatever.)
i know all this, because one or both of my parents remind me weekly about one or the other of these things. the puddles of water on the counter **** them off like nothing else. not only is leaving a puddle of water inconsiderate, it can also ruin the counter (waterstains and whatnot).
but i just say "you only have to concern yourself with your own bathroom"
