We should relax with our ideas about what hijab is and isnt.
Although I cannot disagree with your implication of what is in/appropriate with hijab, I feel obligated to point out that every woman is at a different level in terms of her faith, and especially the physical aspects of it.
Before we point to other women and criticize and/or disapprove of their appearance in terms of hijab, I think its important to consider that certainly these women are trying. Also, the act of wearing a hijab with something skimpy- if anything- suggests that these women are confused, and need some sort of guidance, or simply just time. Is that too much to give? Or are we just intolerant as a people?

A lot of these girls who we write off as 'tight shirt hijabis' hold great potential. And only God knows how much higher they are than the rest of us in faith. Because it may just be that as we are busy disapproving of their attire, they're busy in the dhikr of our Lord. So
let's make excuses for one another, and let's reach out.

I think I should also make clear that my intention was not to offend you, as I respect you quite a bit as a muslim woman, mashAllah, but instead I hope we can all be just a little more tolerant and accepting of one another.
Cheers.

*sigh* Must spread rep.
I love you.

I definitely agree with you about being tolerant and giving people the time and space to figure things out. but at the same time, it doesnt make what they are doing right and i dont think there is anything judgemental about pointing that out. :faint:

Why do we need to point it out to begin with? I cant help but think maybe we do that to feel better about our ownselves. Which suggests insecurity to some degree.

Pointing to someone specific and having the 'holier than thou' attitude is wrong, but i don't see anything wrong in just generally saying that it's wrong to wear hijab that way (without referring to anyone). Maybe one of those people who don't know will come across this and correct themselves.

I think it's better to make small suggestions. There are a lot of us converts out there that actually put stock in what we see of other, presumably more knowledgeable, sisters. If everyone tries to correct their hijab inshaAllah, it helps everyone involved.

UmmAbdullah-- I like many of the abayas on that site. :faint:

I have a thing for black abayas. With shirts/pants/etc. I love bright colors- bright pink, bright yellow, crisp white, bright green...but with abayas, they look so sexy as all black.

I looked at their online store. Nice stuff, okay prices. The two-piece abaya looked really good and gave me a few ideas about some things I would like to design and sew. Don't have much time for all of the embroidery, tho. I'll probably use applique and ribbonwork.

I am in love with these abayas

MA-Dubai, Ladies Beauty & Fitness Center, Abaya Art

Minus the puffy sleeves on this one:

Not a huge fan of the shiny fabric trend, but I like the flowers:

Of course, one would need to wear sleeves under the sleeves here :monkey:

Too many fabulous abayas that I unfortunately can't afford. Dear AbuS - get a second job and then take me to Dubai on a shopping trip!

Hi my name is Mollie and I've been cruising a lot of Muslim-friendly clothing stores on the web, trying to find conservative work-out wear. I am not Muslim (I'm not anything) I'm just a very body-conscious girl who loves working out but hates spandex! I think a jilbab would be perfect for my lifestyle, but I don't want to offend anyone of the Muslim faith with my clothing choices. Can anyone tell me if they would mind if a non-Muslim girl took to wearing a jilbab to work out in or for casual wear? Thanks!

Mollie, I don't think anyone would be offended, but it might be hard to work out in a Jilbab. You could also do a men's long sleeved wicking shirt (loose, but won't be too hot) with unlined track pants. Good luck!
