The first I remember was when I was about 9. My bros have both had them since they were very young, maybe 4-5. Both my parents and most of my aunts and uncles have them. The scary thing is that one of my cousins had a stroke in his 30's, and migraines alone increase your risk significantly, so with family history of migraine and stroke... :flower:

Another thing is, if you have an aura with your migraines, you should absolutely not take BCPs. Even greater increase in stroke risk. Migraine without aura is less risky, but still above that for non-migraineurs.

I took preventative meds for awhile and it made my hands shake so I stopped. it's worth a shot if you get them very frequently. sometimes migraines come in clusters. chances are within a week or so, she'll be back to normal.

sleeping them off never worked for me either. I end up waking up in the middle of the night because it's gotten worse and then taking my meds. I've learned to take it once I feel the slightest of migraine pain and not to wait to see if it actually is a migraine.

I feel you guys pain, I use to get horrible migraines since I was a teen. Even now I get them, but ever since I'm preggers it has stopped. Taking naps don't help me, it makes it worse. I remember taking excedrin but that didn't do anything for me. I've heard migraines are genetic, is that true? My mom has very very bad ones, all of my sibling get them as well.

On a diff note: I'm freaking exhausted, not getting much sleep. :D

my neurologist told me migraines often get better during pregnancy for hormonal reasons.

nooni: inna lillahi wa inna ilayhee raajioun. May allah forgive his soul and grant him jannah and put patience in his family's heart to go through this tough time. ameen! :D

wow so im not the only one who gets those ugly headaches from the middle of nowhere...alhumdulilah theyre not as bad and i dont get them as frequently as i used to when i was younger, but lately ive been getting them at times and ill think maybe its lack of sleep, go find a nice place to go sleep and wake up with an even worst throbbing headache...its like you can feel your temples beating with pain.

sigh, i have a 15 page paper to do...im bogged down with stuff. and i had a horrible day yesterday. worst stomach ache ever, while at school. i wanted to throw up and didnt eat or drink anything but sprite all day long until i got home. :/ now i have to cram in this paper. paper witing marathon today starting in 5 minutes (inshallah)...

duas for all you guys with papers and finals :flower:

excedrin never worked for me either...and neither does caffeine. i've been drinking tea, coffee and soda almost nonstop for the last day or two and it hasnt worked. the only thing that works is 400mg of ibuprofen every few hours, or 600mg if the headache gets really bad. and yea, i've done a lot of random google research on migraines and from what i've read they're definitely genetic.

i also think the haziness/lack of alertness late last week was my migraine aura. i also kept seeing random flashes of light out of the corners of my eyes...this seems like a new development, i never used to get that as part of my migraine aura. i also get very cranky and impatient right before it hits....i didn't recognize the signs cuz i haven't had a migraine in a while. *sigh* may Allah grant us all shifa and make it an expiation of our sins, ameen :look:
