Cute Parent Story:

My dad goes to work way before my mom. So once hes outside, and made it halfway to work, he calls her to tell her the weather outside, and if she should wear warm clothes or boots cause of snow and ice. and then she dresses appropriately.

last night, i couldnt find a cordless to call my husband so i took the one beside her bed stand and shes like 'No, put it back. I need that phone cause your Dad tells me the weather,'

I think its cute, cuase my mom can just as well check the weather channel, but she prefers to hear it from him.

It's the little things, mA. :faint:

I feel so sick and crappy, I just want to crawl into bed and have someone take care of me. except no one's here. except my daughter, who I have to give a lot of attention to because she's also not feeling well. and I'm trying to finish some assignments (that are already late).
'scuse me, while I kiss the sky..

ok, afra, here's what you do.

put a big poster of Bush on the back of your room door. when you hear annoying girl coming, grab a shoe and nail her in the head the second she flings the door open. "oh, man! I'm sorry, we were playing throw shoes at bush! Next time, you should knock first!"

Hit her a couple of times in the head, even if she does knock. It should stop her.

OR YOU COULD JUST LOCK YOUR DOOR, wth.

Alhumdulillah for everything, but sometimes this marriage business is tough :faint:

i hear that. :p
The word As-shams (the sun) is feminine, and Qamar (moon) is masculine. The sun burns itself to give light and life to everything around, and the moon is Muneer, meaning it reflects the light; it radiates the brilliance of the sun.
So when we shine as men, the implication is that we are reflecting the glorious light of our women.

my dad's now been made aware of the sister situation. all modes of communication to the outside world have been taken away from her and i also suggested 24-hour chaperoning since it's too early in the game and she's too sneaky to trust just yet. problem is, my parents both work and so do my mom's parents so the people who can watch her during the day are few and far between. only 5 days until i can go home and be the full-time babysitter inshallah. i hope my parents can handle it until then. i'm still rooting for an open-ended or one-way ticket to pakistan but we'll see. please make dua for her :faint:

jelly, im not sure what your situation is, or how old your sister is. but to be honest, locking her up or sending her to pakistan is not going to help. it will only make her resent all of you and it wont fix things.

if you want to talk, i will be on aim later today (i gotta study for now!), but i think i can give you a different perspective. i think i sort of relate to her, sooo..let me know!
this is my wish for you:
comfort on difficult days, smiles when sadness intrudes, rainbows to follow the clouds, laughter to kiss your lips, sunsets to warm your heart, hugs when spirits sag, beauty for your eyes to see, friendship to brighten your being, faith so that you can believe, confidence for when you doubt, courage to know yourself, patience to accept the truth, love to complete your life.

i think it depends on the person. i know one girl who was sent to pakistan and she came back fine. it totally backfired when they tried it on her sister, who moved out, cut off ties with the family and left islam. double edged sword. :flower:

aishamysha: im so sorry, i wish there was a magic wishing well or somethign where we could wish all our problems away. if you guys can stay strong in your marriage then almost nothing can bring you down. inshallah you will look back in 20 years with your big happy family and be able to talk about how you got through this. you're in my duas :flower:

i was sent to pakistan when i was 17 (my sister's problems are 100x worse than anything i was ever into) and it straightened me out alhamdulillah. like sumiyia said, you dont know what will work with each individual. let's hope cutting her off from her loser friends helps for now, more drastic measures come later.

so there's this girl in my dorm who barges into people's rooms without knocking, then bursts into tears and loudly complains to them about every little problem in her life, without stopping once to ask how they're doing. she constantly asks people to take photos of her, and then will ask if we think she's pretty. she sticks around even when people hint that theyre busy and would like her to leave. once she finally leaves, she'll go visit a different neighbor and complain to them about the same stuff all over again.
it's gotten to the point where people pretend not to be around when they hear her coming.

one of these episodes happened tonight (regarding a boy she stopped talking to three months ago). i thought about it and had a hunch. so i whipped out my notes on the official DSM-IV criteria for histrionic personality disorder and began checking things off.
.....you only need to fit about half of the criteria to be diagnosed, but she fits every single criterion to a T. :flower:

it's not some kind of serious, debilitating disorder. it's just one that makes you really irritating to be around. and well... at least now i can make excuses for her next time im annoyed beyond reason.

we have another psych major besides me and sally on the forums? AWESOME! psych majors ftw...! how come i never knew this?!?!?! ahahaha, when i took abnormal psych and had to memorize the whole DSM-IV chart for the mood disorders i started to sit there there diagnosing people i knew with that mental checklist going on. (too bad im stupid and after my finals i forget everything hah!)

the saddest thing about the desi community which annoys me is that when you tell a desi parent that their child comes under one of the categories of depression. id noticed that this one girl i knew was slowly going into major depression and tried to have a talk about it with her parents and pointed out that all the points required to be labelled under the category of depression were being shown by her, and they refused to believe it. they just thougth she was wanting attention and would ignore her even more thinking that shell snap out of it one day, they even tried to go the whole "lets get her married" route. they were pissed at me that i even MENTIONED such a disorder that, to them, was inexistent. and she had a mental breakdown one day that resulted in them taking her to the hospital and a psychiatrist diagnosing her with severe depression. its really sad, because these conditions are really existent and yet theres people out there that try to deny it.

meh...i need to be studying. 2 more finals to go! also we had that huge dawat my moms been wanting last night, with over 40 people (i have NO idea how my momma did it, but she cooked 5 dishes for that many people! mA!) and alhumdulilah it went well...now i can finally focus on studying and gettign these two finals over with so i can relax.

i also have 2 huge stress pimples on my cheek that look ugly :flower:

it doesnt hurt to explain it to them...the worst thing they can do is say no. and if they do, then youre exactly where you are right now. so ask..inshallah theyll let you turn in the finished one!
