Cool Martial Arts (someone here has to like them)!!!!!!!!

Salam alaikum wa Rahmahtullahi Wa Barakatohu. Hello guys, I was wondering how many of you here actually take a Martial Arts class. What do you all do ? Which style do you practice or do you cross train ? How has it helped you in your daily life?

Oh by the way I do judo and it's fun.

Default I'm going to start training in Bujinkan martial arts!

Salaam Alikum.

I'm going to start training in the Martial Art of Bujinkan!
Quote:
WHY LEARN BUDO TAIJUTSU?

Society today, of course, is no longer feudal. We don't have Samurai riding through the neighborhood trying to cut our heads off, rather, we now have drive-by shootings, car-jackings, gang related crimes, road-rage, etc. This art does not involve sport competition in tournaments. Budo Taijutsu, is more suited to today's lifestyle, where there are no rules, no time-keepers, judges, referees, no weight divisions, etc. It involves getting home safely.

Taijutsu uses relaxed natural movement and distance to overcome an opponent's speed and strength. Movement is refined for grace and naturalness in all actions with power resulting from mere movement, and evasion from a simple adjustment of bodily position.

Budo Taijutsu is a complete martial art, and as such, incorporates strikes, punches, kicks, throws, locks, tumbling, weaponry, stealth, meditation, spiritual empowerment, and a literally unlimited universe of henka (variations).

Bujinkan dojo emphasize traditional training for combat. At the beginning and end of every class, traditional rei-ho, bowing in and out to the kamidana is performed. The kamidana or kamiza, is the spiritual seat of the traditional martial arts school and consists of a small house holding a calligraphy, photo or sculpture by or of the art's founder. This is purely a sign of reverence for the tradition of our art, not a form of worship.
Now, for this last part about bowing to the kamidana, that's allowed, correct? They say specifically that it's not worship, though it may look like that. Am I allowed to do that, or should I tell the instructer that I can't do that for religious reasons?

Here's some pictures I googled of bujinkan (and then saved to my photobucket to make a url out of them):

and here's the "prayer position" that I mentioned earlier:

I want to practice Bujinkan because:
1) Good Exercise
2) Learn self-defense (good in today's world)
3) gain confidence
4) actually have skills to go with the Ninja suit (see the other thread)
5) Learn teamwork and other important skills and lessons
6) and it Looks like fun

So, what does everyone think? Prices are $5 a class (2-3 classes a week), and there is no beginner or advanced. Everyone is on the same level.

I plan to start right after Ramadan. I don't want to train when I'm fasting, so I'll start next month, inshallah.

Sounds cool. Do they exercise there as part of the class? Or is that like homework?

Exercise where? In that forest setting? That forest is actually a Bujinkan summer camp. The other pics are regular bujinkan training (which is what I will be doing)

1) Ninjas are the coolest thing since canned bread or chocolate milk. Who doesn't want to be a Ninja?

2) Bujinkan is not exactly ninjistu. It's based off Ninjitsu, but is modernized.

The "prostratation of respect" was halal for the past nations, which is why we see it in stories such as the story of Yusuf (as), but the Prophet (saw) strictly forbade it because it can lead towards shirk.

So you'd have to tell them you can't perform the bowing out of religious reasons.

Actually, I e-mailed the instucter, and he said that they don't do that because they train outside, and even if they did, he said that he wouldn't force someone against religious beliefs. So I'm good. I start training next month, inshallah.

I'm having trouble finding a way to get there (I've researched the bus system, it doesn't work), so please make Dua that I can get a ride there. I really want to do this, and I thought I would have to wait years later before I could start. Transportation is my only conflict now.

Either learn Brazillian Ju-Jitsu or Muay Thai

or

Pencak Silat

Silat - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

here's one version of silat..

Tapak Suci (full name: Tapak Suci Putera Muhammadiyah) is a modern school of Pencak Silat founded by Barie Irsyad in 1963. Tapak Suci is Indonesian for "sacred or clean path". An effective method of self defence, Tapak Suci is deep rooted in the philosophies of Islam, but has its doors open for non muslims also. It is one of the biggest Pencak Silat schools in the world, with over thousands of pesilat.

Hey Kona. Looky what I found. This is vintage.

YouTube - Kyokushin Vs Muay Thai

It's a beautiful fight. KyoKushin vs Muay thai. A fight sanctioned by Sosai Oyama himself and it's not K-1 rules. K-1 hadn't even started back then. A very fair fight for both styles in my opinion. It's true Kyokushin the way it was meant to be practiced.

Anyway I think we can all agree that no one style is superior by far. Although some style's do suck (most chinese styles are just for show lol...)

Real MMA dominance can only be acquired through an amalgamation of the best techniques and the techniques best suited to the fighter.

Sorry, I wasn't typing properly. Do they expect that you are exercising at home? Or do they devote a portion of the class time to exercise?

The class itself is exercise with all the action going on.
