Buffalo is my favorite place on earth, seriously. I can't really explain why, I just know that since I was like 7 or 8, I've loved it. I love everything about Buffalo, and the animal. Heck, I even love Buffalo wings. It's not about outlet stores, it's about me loving the town. As corny as it may be.

Re: The NHL Thread
RIP William Wirtz, owner and president of the Chicago Blackhawks, 1929-2007.
After seeing the comments written by some other Blackhawks fans, I can now say I'm truly ashamed to be one. They're actually gleeful about his death. Granted, he's been a royal screwup for the last ten years, especially when he blocked out home games in Chicago. But in his defense, first of all, he became president of the team in the 60's, when things were a lot different. And he had a lot of success with the team well into the 80's and early 90's, when they went to the Finals in '92. The Blackhawks made 29 straight playoff appearences while Wirtz was in charge and went to the Finals three times.
And for those who whine about his penny-pinching: Yes, he was incredibly frugal. But I'm amazed you would complain about that these days, since the people loudest about making that complaint are also the ones in Chicago who most likely said Lance Briggs was a whiner when he was getting $7 million from the Bears this season, well under his market value.

Re: The NHL Thread
Some of the articles written about Wirtz are pretty sad too.. There was one written on SportingNews.com titled "Wirtz death a blessing"
Im sure you all saw the Steve Downie hit on Dean McAmmond! I dont know whats worse.. the hit..of after the hit when the players were going at it.. while Dean was lying on the ice..and the one Philly player fell on him..almost cut him with his skate.
Hopefully Downie finally learns his lesson.. the guy has major anger managment issues!
on a lighter note...Ducks vs. Kings kick off the regular season from London England..NOW! ! (nevermind..theres a delay..the lights arnt turning on)

Re: The NHL Thread
I just found out that one of the Sabres prospects is from my hometown. (or rather, the town I live in.) That is SO weird, especially since my town is so crusty. I think I am gonna get me a hockey jersey. I love how they are so nice and long. Im too cheap though, so I think I will get the cheapest one, which potentially could be the flyers. Barf.

Heh, yeah. The Flyers suck. If you can, get one of the classic Sabre jerseys, or the black buffalo-head ones if you can't get the classic one.
I knew that game in London was going to be a one-sided affair. But I didn't count on the Kings being the team that dominated. What happened to the Ducks, that they would get dominated by the lowly Kings? And don't say it was because they were missing Giguere, because it had to have been more than just that.

Re: The NHL Thread
the first game.. Bernier was amazing for the Kings.. and Cammalleri and Kopitar got some good chemistry.. mixed that with the ducks taking a lota penalties.. i think all the goals were on the pp.. .expcet one..which was a shorty.. but overall.. the Ducks looked flat compared to the Kings....some say it was because the Ducks only had practices during their stay in England..where as the Kings played some teams from the England league. OR maybe it was because not only were they missing Giguere... they were missing Selanne, Pahlsson and Scotty Niedermayer. ... they were also without Schneider..who they signed to replace Neids...
butt...the second game was a different story.. i only watched some of it..the Ducks looked like the better team...Kings took a lota penalties the second game... And the Ducks planted bertuzzi infront of the Kings goalie Lebarbera *orsomething*....that resulted in 2 goals..

Re: The NHL Thread
Well that's it. The potential Sabre dynasty has come to an official close. They lost to the friggin Islanders!
The Blackhawks appear to be playing better though. Kane was the best player on the ice during the opener in Minnesota. Havlat was injured AGAIN but we have the talent to make up this season.

Re: The NHL Thread
LOUSY SABRES! This is what happens when you let go of your captains! One loss to the Isles is bad enough! But two! In two nights! One at home! I mean.... Come on!!!.... Ugh..... I'm gonna quit talking about the Sabres now..... I'm just too disgusted.....
I was at an art show last night and I put the Blackhawks game on the radio. I was happy to see the Hawks won, and I about exploded with glee when I listened to Patrick Kane nab his first NHL point! Way to go man, show 'em all what a Buffalo kid can do!
Havlat is out indefinitely with a shoulder injury.

Re: The NHL Thread
Thankfully it's a minor injury. I can't wait to see what Toews can do.

Re: The NHL Thread
Jason Blake has been diagnosed with leukemia.
Quote:
TORONTO -- Toronto Maple Leafs forward Jason Blake has been diagnosed with a rare form of leukemia.
Blake said he got the test results back Friday and broke the news to his teammates on Monday at the Air Canada Centre. He has chronic myelogenous leukemia, a slow-growing cancer of the white blood cells.
The 34-year-old left-winger has already started treatment, is in no immediate danger and shouldn't miss any playing time.
"When you find out that you have something it's definitely shattering to your whole family and so on," an emotional Blake said after practice. "Overall I feel good. I'm still here and my goal this whole season hasn't changed. Obviously you take a step back and you kind of re-evaluate everything but for the most part I feel good.
"I think to get it off my chest and to move forward is a big weight lifted."
The 34-year-old native of Moorhead, Minn., signed a US$20-million, five-year deal with the Leafs in the off-season. The team said that while Blake's on-ice performance is not expected to be affected, he will be monitored closely by both the team's physician and his CML specialist.
"I think the prognosis is outstanding," team doctor Noah Forman said. "He's taking medication which he has already started, it's a daily medication, and it should definitely put the condition under really good control and allow him to continue on with a long and healthy life -- as well as his career.
