This thread is about technology that's just around the corner.

Like if I were making this thread 15 years ago, I'd say: Yes, the internet - it will revolutionize the way we do things, and will destroy the music industry. (and everyone would be "aw give me a break")

Or I'd say: Portable telecommunication devices - they will be able to stash away in a large briefcase, and they will be called cell-u-lar phones. Everyone will have them and it'll revolutionize telecom.



So now if there is something that you think will be ubiquitous in the next few year.

I think OLEDs will become a big thing soon. Like now you can't find a CRT, I think OLEDs are gonna be the next display technology.

Yeah OLEDs really do look innovative and futuristic. I wonder how much a 60" OLED TV would cost

They have new contact lens' under development that have tiny screens AND wireless transmitters right on the lens. When you're wearing them, others cannot, at casual glance, tell that your contacts are different, or even that you're wearing them at all.

The tiny electronic circuitry in the lens' projects images onto the surface but to the wearer it appears like images are floating in mid-air, a few feet in front of them. The wireless transmitters serve to send and receive data.

Eventually people could wear their entire computer like this [the processor and SSD and other stuff would be on a small device you can wear on your belt like a USB key] and it would be packed with pretty much everything you want - the internet, GPS, whatever.

I was in the Apple store the other day... I like the super-thin keyboards they have for the iMacs.

Ooohh... speaking of, there're these OLED keyboards out. Super expensive right now, but I think they may start making headway. Each key is a little screen that will display it's own character or picture that can be configured how you like it. So if you're doing spanish homework, you can pull up the Spanish template... or if you wanna right in Urdu, or Arabic the keyboard will display those languages. When you press 'Alt' or 'Control', all the keys will change to show you what the new functions are.

But the real fun would come in games - all the keys would configure to relevant displays, flash at you... all that. It'd be cool.
