Re: Cell Phones
i really can't say one way or the other because this phone is my first experience with a windows based pda phone. Also I've never messed around with the 6700 so I can't compare the two.
Does the 6700 have the evdo rev A for the data speed? I think that might have been one of the major upgrades and it is a lot faster. It also has gps capabilities, which I haven't messed around with; I'm sure there's some free programs out there for that.
I'm sure the 6700's antennae nub must also get annoying, but I don't know if that would be enough to pay for the upgrade.

not sure about the name of the speed, but when i tether it to my laptop, i get about 230kps download.
no gps, which does help as you can install tom tom..
the nub is ok, as far as paying, this phone i've had for a year or two is on its last leg, so if/when it dies, they will have to give me the 6800 as the 6700 isn't being sold anymore by sprint.
screen is probably bigger with the 6800 which is invaluable.

Oh do you have the insurance policy on your phone? Then definitely go ahead and kill off your phone and have them give you a refurbished 6800.
I'm not sure the technical names for the speeds, but on my screen the faster speed will show "EV" up top vs the slower speed which shows "1X." But your download speed seems pretty good. Btw what program do you use to tether to your computer? I bought pdanet - well worth it.

yea i have the insurance, the phone will probably die soon, weird things are happening...
the program is wmodem the one that comes with wm6, then I dl'ed the stuff you need on your laptop and walla(is that right?) it works.
the good thing about the 6700 is that you can tether with the laptop and you don't have to pay extra for the tethering. the 6800 is different in that one aspect, the only aspect that is stopping me from fully going for it.
I know that i will eventually go with the 6800 though, just a matter of time, as i have slowly stopped tethering.
When they stopped the internet at work, it was awesome to have the tethering, but now good ol internet is back

the n95 will never be available in regular stores. i know they made a north american version but places like sprint, at&t, etc , will never offer it because its too expensive.
i know someone who just ordered the phone, its pretty dam expensive. but the features are dam cool i must say so myself

Re: Cell Phones
i have serious beef with the fact that all the good phones are sold overseas. i also have issues with how fragile cell phones are- we take them literally everywhere, and i think they should be able to handle it (falls, water, etc.). i wish the cell phone industry wouldn't baby us with cheap products.
i recently got this:
it has pretty good reviews. it's one of sony's walkman phones and i just bought a 2 gig micro card so i can actually put music in it. i think i actually like the fact that the memory card slot is under the back plate; while a lot of phones have it on the outside and it's accessible, i'm paranoid and think that dirt could get in there really easily. it took some getting used to the soft keys (i had a nokia before; i hate nokias now), but all in all, it's an easy to use phone.

That program didn't come with my phone. Do you mean having to pay extra per month to your carrier/Sprint for tethering? Because while I did pay I think $20 for the 3rd party program I have, I'm not paying Sprint anything extra when I tether.

Re: Cell Phones
This is the phone I got back in November - the Sony Ericsson K810i. It's super hot. I love it.

Oh cool, i didnt know that, now my only main reason for not going to the 6800 has now vanished.
Though from the forum's that i have been reading at, the 6700 is the only phone that they(sprint) couldn't tell if you were tethering or not.
I'm assuming you don't tether alot, and that maybe why they don't care.

I used it as a primary internet connection for about a month without any problems. Now I mostly use it where there's no free wifi (bookstores etc).
I know when the 6800 initially came out people were concerned that Sprint would know when you're tethering, however on the message boards I've read, noone has ever had any problems (or charges) from sprint.
The program i'm using is called PDAnet. I think they have a free week or month trial period.
