To say that something is absolutely true on its own, regardless of the milieu, is foolish. You cannot disregard the framework. It is the framework. The thing to be realized is that nothing can exist in a vacuum. Like Chuck Klosterman says in his book, nothing is “in and of itself.” It cannot be.

that's cool. none of us here are 'confining' what types of people we're attracted to though

i think when it comes to the kind of looks you're attracted to, it happens from the inside and is rather uncontrollable. i remember reading a study done on babies and apparently they'd stare at faces that they found more appealing much longer than those that they did not. so it was concluded that preferences for facial structure/type etc develop early on in life.
but obviously, there are all sorts of people and people who think they could never be attracted to certain types of people are proven wrong etc.
it's all good unless you start comparing and competing.
