no, i dont think so.

it only shutsdown when the batter charger is not connected.. if not, it stays on for like 20 mins and than shutsdown
Hey......I had this problem with my macbook pro last year......there`s a known battery issue with macbooks and apple released a firmware update that resolves the problem in most cases.

Apple - Support - Downloads - Battery Update 1.2

If that doesn`t work (didn`t for me) contact apple customer service and they`ll replace your battery free if the serial number matches the group that had issues.

When I had my macbook and was having trouble with my harddrive... I popped it in the freezer for a night (in a zip loc baggie), no joke. The next day it ran like a dream. If it's an issue with the hard-drive, it might be something to try (though from the sounds of it it seems to be a battery issue).
Tell me you didn`t really do this?!!!!

You`re crazy

not when u are a student. ... the new ones are nice.
I bet you can replace that 4 year old computer with a $250 mac mini and it would be more advanced.

No prob.......4 years huh? Well......it can`t hurt to try, honestly Apple has the best customer service I`ve ever dealt with....tell your friend to call them and to play up how loyal a customer she`s been and that she had her eye on purchasing some other Apple products (tell her not to ham it up too much but a little can`t hurt)

If worse comes to worse she could get a replacement battery for like a hundred bucks....but I bet they`ll give it to her for free.
