Smokin' New Samsung
No it doesn't come with bluetooth
Video
Quote:
Samsung develops a machine-gun equipped robotic sentry.
The sentry robot is equipped with two cameras, one for day-time and one for infrared night vision, zooming capabilities, a speaker for notifying the intruder of inpending death, sophisticated pattern recognition to detect the difference between humans and trees, and a 5.5mm machine-gun.
The robots, co-developed between Samsung and Korea University, are expected to sell for $200,000 USD and will be available late in 2007. The South Korean government plans to deploy these friendly reminders on the border between South and North Korea, to further ease relations between the countries. Or, maybe it's the othe way around.
I imagine that all of the World's Evil Leaders with secret Bad-Guy hideouts are licking their lips.

Re: Smokin' New Samsung
These ones are already deployed in Iraq (Not made by Samsung)

Gun Toting Robots See Action in Iraq
The U.S. Army quietly entered a new era earlier this summer when it sent the first armed ground robots into action in Iraq.
So far, the robot army's entrance into the war has been a trickle rather than an invasion.
Only three of the special weapons observation remote reconnaissance direct action system (SWORDS) have been deployed so far.
The Army has authorized the purchase of 80 more robots -- which are being touted as a potentially life-saving technology -- but acquisition officials have not come forth with the funding.
"As [soldiers] use them and like them, I’ve heard positive feedback, they want 20 more immediately. It’s a shame we can’t get them to them," Michael Zecca, SWORDS program manager, told National Defense.
The three robots, which tote M249 rifles and are remotely controlled by a soldier through a terminal, have been in Iraq since April and are with the 3rd Infantry Division, 3rd Brigade.
After three years of development at the Armament Research, Development and Engineering Center at Picatinny Arsenal, N.J., the robots were formally approved for combat use in June. Their exact whereabouts and missions are classified, but Zecca could confirm that they have been used in reconnaissance tasks and street patrols.
He did not know of any incidents of the weapon being fired so far.

Israel's got a bunch of those too.
At first I thought it was a thread about a TV - and I couldn't get that home-electronics frame of mind out of my head, so now I'm picturing one of those bad boys guarding my front door.

Astaghfirullah.
I saw this on the news a while back and it freaked me out.
The world's going to hell.

Fooling hi-tech equipment has always been ridiculously easy - subhanallah.
This isn't any different. Just make like Sam and Frodo from LOTR and cover yourself with a blanket.

Re: Smokin' New Samsung
I don't know about this one, but with the systems that I've had a look at, when the image recognition software can't figure out what the motion detectors are telling them to look at, the man-in-the-loop mode bleeps an alert and a human can fire it. - Or, if it's set with in a closer perimeter, it can run off the motion detectors alone.

If only it could recognise Jehova's Witnesses...
It's probably got different modes for different alert levels. In normal mode a man-in-the-loop would let a human decide to fire. In special modes the bot would fire automatically.

It was going to hell anyway. This is just a more efficient, sophisticated and downright cooler way to go to it.

Nothing even remotely cool about it. Nothing at all.

Phew, thank God for that then.
