As Salamu Alaykum Sidi,

I know what you mean. I work for a nonprofit Muslim organization, I dont get paid much, but alhamdulillah. I'm just glad places like jaan j accomodates the needs for muslims who need to wear that in a business or formal environment.

*disclaimer - I hate wearing ties and suits. My idea of comfortable clothing is sweat pants and a t shirt. I'll add a zip up hooded sweater for colder days (which is pretty rare in southern california.)

Red face Re: Fatwa on Silk Necktie

When I was doing hifzh,my teacher told me not to wear the tie cause it symbolized the cross.(which is not true with all due respect to my teacher.) So I stopped wearing ties until I was finished. Then I went back to wearing them after hifzh. (Obviously I'm not talking about silk ties.) I just figured it was one of those things that people said was haram without any strong daleel because of their bias against the west or because of something that was passed on from so and so to so and so until some people took it as law.

Asalamu Alaikum,

Just checked out Jaan J for the first time. They have some cute Hijaab Pins. But there too pricey.

Why didn't you just respectfully tell him that they did not, in fact, symbolize the cross?

With all due respect I don't think ties could get any uglier than the ones the kids above are wearing.
