Hassan al Basri (ra) on Humility
Abu Hurayra reported that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, "Allah, the Mighty and Exalted, said, 'Might is My wrapper, and pride is My cloak and I will punish any one who contends with me [for them]." [Muslim]
Hasan Basri (ra) said: An essential requisite for humility [and absence of any form of pride] is that when an individual steps out of his home, whomever he sees he considers them to be superior to his own self. was-Salaam
