Default Things I learned From This Friday's Khutbah.

Assalamualaikum,

Like the title says, you can post things that stood out to you during the khutbah. Remember, the Juma'ah namaz is only two rakaats because the khutbah is considered part of the prayer. so dont be late to it. dont talk to people during it. and actually listen to it. Most of the time it is VERY informative.

so this past Friday, i went to Jummah and mashAllah it was a nice khutbah about ramadan. the khateeb mentioned how it is only during ramadan that we "better" ourselves and come Eid day...we are back to our haraam stuff. Ramadan is practice for us. we should keep all the things that we learn from it ie. patience with us all year...atleast until next ramadan so that we get to practice it again and make it stronger.

it also included a lot other things that we have heard so many times, but rarely ever practice (talking to the opposite gender is haraam, etc.) but what stood out to me was the analogy the khateeb made about something i always questioned.

As we all know that shaitaan are closed up during ramadan. well i always wondered why people still commit sins...why theives still stole, why liars still lied, why people still missed prayer, why sisters didnt start covering themselves up, why brothers didnt realize that it is imperitive for them to pray EVERY prayer at the masjid.

well i knew it had a lot to with the a person's nafs. but the khateeb put it VERY well. He mentioned Pavlov's experiment*. he said that we were just like the dog. that even though the shaitaan are locked up, we are so used to commiting sins, so used to the things assiciated with them that we dont realize that our nafs is the one making us commit these sins. during normal days we can blame shaitaan for making us go astray, but what about during ramadan? we have no one else to blame, but ourselves. subhanAllah, all these temptations are so stamped in our hearts that at the FIRST sight of temptation we fall. May Allah (swt) help us and guide us to the right path. May He (swt) grant magfirah to our loved ones who have passed away. May He (swt) help this ummah stay strong. and may He (swt) help us live through this ramadan (and the rest of our lives) in a way that pleases Him (swt) the most. Ameen.

* For those of you who havent taken psychology pavlov's experiment included a dog as the subject. Pavlov would ring a bell right before the food was brought for the dog and it would start salivating at the sight of food. At first, the dog didnt realize that the bell was associated with food

edit: Narrated Abu Huraira "The person who takes a bath then comes to
the Jum`a prayer, then offers the prayer that was destined for
him, and then keeps silent till the Imam finishes the sermon, and
then prays along with him, his sins between that time and the
next Friday would be forgiven, and even of three days more"

please dont talk during khutbahs. it is annoying and affects other people's concentration as well.

Economic Circles are necessary for the ummah, and so is the continuation of faith.

When you come into a neighborhood to do business follow the example of the sahaba, there business ethics had people reverting left and right. No cheating people, no selling of Haram, setting the standard for the ideal muslim, etc.

Any profit you may have goes to fund your family, your community(masjid), and the poor.

Not included in this circle is sending money so your family members can come join in the jahil. Keep your faith Keep the sunnah, and fund your masjid.

There's No reason that 70% of all zakah in america should be going overseas. Most of it to bring people to join the DarulHarb.

The Muslims need to become self sufficient in order to become a force to be reckoned with.

In order to this, we MUST return to our basics.
