My expertise may be in other topics, but in classic sunnism, its always been obligatory to follow some sort of madhab.
Thats the definition of a Sunni - one who follows the 4 Imams of Sunnism, atleast in matters of fiqh.

No, it is not. There have been way more madhaib than four throughout history. The other madhaib just died out. So how can you say that the definition is anyone who follows one of the four madhaib?

At the risk of sounding extremely sanctimonious and self-righteous, I don't think we should use such phrases. Wallahu Aalim.

Here are some more words from Shaykh Muhammad ibn Abdul Wahhab:

Contrary to the popular myth promoted by pseudo-salafis taqlid is not 'blind following'. I just find it an entirely futile exercise arguing with you guys. Reject taqlid all you want the position of ibn 'abdul-wahhab is clear.
The hard fact is that no one ever rejected taqlid except for "SALAFIS".

Most Salafis do not reject taqleed.
Rather, they reject extremism in taqleed.

Well I'm still trying to understand what exactly you mean by 'extremism' in taqlid. You tend to make varying and at times contradictory arguements about what consitutes extremism in taqlid.

Thats a big Lie with a capital *L*.
I challenge you show me one single legit Salafi website where Salafis dont reject taqleed altogether.

The only lie is your face.
Seriously, you become an idiot when it comes to Salafis. You don't know jack about them, so just stay quiet.

I accept your challenge.
Here is Islam-qa, which is considered the most reliable Salafi site on the net:

Islam Question and Answer - Is it obligatory to follow a particular madhhab?
Please admit that you have made a fool of yourself.
