Default Surprising discussion on women plucking their eyebrows

I had always thought that it was explicitly forbidden to pluck the eyebrows, but apparently, Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal (ra) allowed trimming and shaving the eyebrows, just not plucking. And apparently Imam an-Nawawi claimed that it is the jamhoor (majority) opinion of the vast majority of scholars that a married woman is allowed to pluck her eyebrows, if it pleases her husband.

What a relief.

I think it's better to just ban it outright cause what happens is that some women push the boundaries and then keep on pushing. Eventually they just shave them all off and just draw a pencil line in it's place.

p.s. note that I said some and not all. I just know some of you will come and say that you know women who just pluck a bit and not shave it all off.

p.p.s Plucking hairs sounds nasty. Sort of like a chicken having its feathers plucked out so that it can be readied for skinning and cooking

Allahu A'lam

What's surprising about it? A woman should beautify herself for her husband. If she has a mustache and a unibrow, I can't think how attractive she will be. Of course, overplucking to the point that one has to draw-in the eyebrows is just silly, but that's just me.

Why did they prever shaving to plucking? Shaving has to be done every few days, plucking lasts longer.

Plucking in the case of unibrows and mustaches are a given. What about plucking to the point where it hampers the eyebrows primary purpose of preventing sweat from getting into the eyes?

Dude, people have been saying that on Islamica for a long time.

People are allowed to get away with a lot of things in order to please their spouses, or make them laugh, etc.

I haven't seen any such discussions on Islamica myself.

I do vaguely remember one thread in which someone stated that an Imam they knew said it was allowed so long as you don't change the shape of the eyebrows, but they didn't say the name of the Imam, or cite an authentic source, etc.

Islamic Awakening has much more knowledgeable people on it than Islamica Web.

It defeats the purpose of why Allah put eyebrows on human beings (to block sweat from going into the eyes).

How about heavy sweating? Oh wait I guess women who pluck more than usual don't do too much strenuous activity.

As for me, if I sweat heavily, sweat still gets through despite my unplucked eyebrows
