Making Fun of Parts of the Sunnah

Making fun of the beard or clothes whose length etc. is in accordance with the Sunnah or other aspects of the Sunnah makes a person a kaafir, if he knows that this was proven from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), because he is thereby making fun of the words and actions of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him). In this case he is opposing the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) and making fun of his Sunnah, and the one who makes fun of the Sunnah and knowingly mocks things that are proven to be part of the Sunnah is not a Muslim.

Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“Say: ‘Was it at Allaah, and His Ayaat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) and His Messenger that you were mocking?’
Make no excuse; you disbelieved after you had believed”

[al-Tawbah 9:65-66]

Shia sects have historically been pretty takfeeri too.

So like, using a miswak is sunnah and stuff. If, like, I think using a toothbrush gets my teeth cleaner than using a miswak, are you going to make takfir on me? Are you going to interpret my preference for a nice Oral-B toothbrush and Crest toothpaste as "mocking the sunnah"?

Yeah, I asked it real tongue in cheeck, but making takfir is something serious, you need to be careful about it.

Direct mockery of God and / or His Messenger is indeed kufr, as noted in Surah al-Taubah, ayaat 65 and 66. These ayaat were revealed when there was an incident where some of the Sahabaa were directly mocking another group of Sahabaa who used recite the Qur'an much and were always on the frontlines, so the mocking group said that the other group was the laziest when reciting the Qur'an and most cowardly in battle.

Chotoo: Having a preference for something like that is not mockery. But if you belittle the use of the Miswak, then it can fall into that category.

if a group is actually outside the fold of islam, then sure we do stuff like that, but it has never been a focus to even 1/100th the degree displayed by modern day sunnis.

A laughable argument. The TRUE takfeeris are none other than the Shias. You guys call everything that moves to be a Nasibi. And a Nasibi is WORSE than a kaafir, according to your sect.

There is a real need to do make this kind of thing known, because sadly, this kind of thing is very, very common. People commonly make fun of beards, sunnah clothing, hijab, niqab, and even praying "excessively." In Desi communities, "mullah" is a common epithet.

Jaysh is not declaring takfir on anyone. He is simply making it known, which is something that can only be beneficial. I imagine that most of the people who do this sort of thing would think twice & refrain if they thought about the ramifications of it.

That's an excellent point. The criticism of Sunni takfir is a bit odd coming from a Shia partisan.
