Is mocking other people's belief part of your faith?
I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest most people if not all on this forum practice Islam. Is mocking other people's beliefs part of Islam? Part of your beliefs?
Some of other people's beliefs apparently seem hilarious, such as monkey gods and the lingum. But according to the non-believers, the concept of an angel replacing Ismail with a sheep seems hilarious to them.
Since we do not tolerate such insulting remarks about our beliefs, is it prudent to indulge in the same with other's beliefs?

Since silence is consent, I would imagine the answer to the question posed is yes

No, it's haram to mock other's beliefs. The Qur'an states in 6:108:
Quote:
|
Do not abuse those whom they worship besides Allah lest they become disrespectful towards Allah’s Majesty, through injustice and ignorance; likewise, in the eyes of every nation, We have made their deeds appear good - then towards their Lord they have to return and He will inform them of what they used to do.

no no, I'm not talking about what Islam says. What Islam says isnt followed by a lot of Muslims. I'm talking about whether it is part of your faith... as in your conformity to the religion.

Re: Is mocking other people's belief part of your faith?
yeah I'm not following either, Islam and faith are like basically the same. So like the sister said Islam does not permit mocking of any sort especially other religions, now if an individual does it thats on them, but its not part of Islam.

okay, let me clarify.
We should all know Islam prohibits mocking other people's beliefs. Yet below this thread and elsewhere, you see countless examples of people mocking others' beliefs. From Salafis to Sufis, they're all ridiculed.
The question asked in the original post is whether the reason for that is whether mocking other people's beliefs is part of your faith, or are the people just not conforming to Islam, or is there some interesting twist to their interpretation of Islamic injunctions?

I'm still lost on what you mean and I'm pretty sure she's still lost. You can't go by what soemone does and say ohh ok its part of their faith. I mean you see a lot of ass holes on here, but its right. man I'm confused.

you're using faith and Islam interchangably. When people say I follow Islam and do things the OPPOSITE to the Islamic laws in PUBLIC, should they be judged as followers of Islam? This is a public forum, the wrongdoings are for everyone to see. If a non-Muslim comes to learn about Islam on Islamica (and especially the Religion and Spirituality sub-forum), should the messages in here be indicative of ISLAM, or the faith of the person/s contributing here?

ahhh no, dude muslims arent perfect no one is, Islam is way of life in which one should follow to the best of their ablities, but we all have our faults, someone can have strong faith in islam but not practice everything thing thats is expected of us. Just like with christians, they shouldnt be over indulging in alcohol, does that dismiss them from being christian because they did so? No.

Re: Is mocking other people's belief part of your faith?
I mean not to offend you or any other non muslim, but I'm tired of non muslims looking at the negative things that some muslims do and say ohh its that part of their faith, when sooo many countless other non muslims do things that are not in conjunction with their religion. Look the best thing to do, seriously is not just observes muslims, read the quran and it shall show you the truth in what we islam is about. We are not perfect, so jsut dont go by what people say or do. You feel me?

I agree, Muslims are not perfect. Hence I make a distinction... between Islam and Muslims. Islam is perfect, Muslims arent.
Keeping the above in mind, I am asking the Muslims who are mocking other people's beliefs why they are doing so... whether they dont believe that part about Islam, whether they know it and are still acting out against the laws, or whether they have a different interpretation of the Islamic laws.

Well, I don't think anyone has it a as a part of their "faith"... it's just something they do and it's wrong. I've never heard an opinion or a scholar allow for such mockery. When people do, it is like the equivilent of drinking or not praying. I personally avoid it.

Thats a good point. But I will argue that there is a difference to public display of wrongdoings and private. If you dont pray namaaz, its on your head, you are answerable to no one but Allah. Or if you drink in your own home.
But if you do something publically, it affects other people as well. Stereotypes are made, generalisations are made... why should one individual be affected by anyone else's actions?
