That would be counterproductive... praying and fasting is supposed to increase your iman. And no...

Re: are we allowed to take a break?
Asalamu Alaikum,
I remember as a kid when I first started praying I kept asking my parents "Okay, so I prayed for (x) days so i can i get (x) days off now??" I would NOT let this concept go for a while....I really wanted a break...suhbhanAllah....
But to answer the OP....no, its counter productive.

Re: are we allowed to take a break?
could you imagine for one second, if Allah SWT "took a break" from providing us with his countless blessings for even an instant? maybe when our faith was low?

Re: are we allowed to take a break?
You bring up a really serious issue. Faith is composed of hills and valleys brother....it ebbs and flows. This is pretty much a universal experience that is part and parcel of our human condition. Theres this idea these days that we should be experiencing a faith "high" all the time but this is neither realistic nor does it reflect the reality of our trial in this life.
“And I have not created the jinn and mankind except to worship Me.” (Surah Adh-Dhaariyaat Verse 56)
Allah (swt) knows His creation. The Quran and prohetic hadith are replete with exhortations to insaan (man) that the true purpose of life is to worship the Allah(swt). Don't lose sight of the prize!
Have patience bro!
“O you who believe! Seek help in patience and prayer. Truly! Allah is with the patient.” (Surah Al Baqarah Verse 153)
Sometimes it will feel like you're just going through the motions but hang in there. Surround yourself with pious muslims who take their faith seriously. Pray for guidance and perseverance.......especially just before fajr if possible. Remember that irrespective of how you feel one day you will be called to account and your actions in this world will seem largely frivolous with the exception of good deeds and mindful prayer.
May Allah(swt) increase us all in eman.
Peace akhi

Salaams,
No matter how low your Iman can go, abandoning your religious practices-especially salat, is the supreme victory which shaytan can hope to achieve over you. It is best for you to seek the advice of an Imam, rather than ask us online mufti's our opinions on Islamic Jurisprudence.

Praying during when your imaan (faith) is low, that means a lot. So if Allah sees that even if your faith is low, and you still prostrate to him during this state, He will strengthen your faith, inshaa'Allah, and make you WANT to pray to Him.
We can never take a break from fulfilling the Five Pillars of Islam (Salah being the second) unless you have a valid excuse.
Allahu 'Aalim.

Does anyone else imagine an actual gate, somewhere up in the mountains, beyond which is the sword from the Legend of Zelda?
