There was a discussion in class the other day where the teacher was talking how badly women are treated in muslim countries. I could have said some thing but then i realised what he said was mostly right, i mean there was no way i could defend because his arguments were so strong, so basically i stayed quiet.

So how do i explain this to non muslims on why are muslim women treated badly in muslim countries???

You say that women are treated bad in almost all third world countries. It has nothing to do with Islam. Give India and China as examples.

Wow, I actually agree with Jaysh on something.

(although to add to that, women are often treated poorly in all countries, whether they're third world or not. It's just more accute when poverty is involved)

but the stigma related to sex discussion adds to the suffering of young Muslim women in third world countries.

while the culture around them is "modernized", sex education at home and school haven't caught up.
