Are Wedding Rings Islamic?
Just wondering .. are wedding rings part of the Islamic wedding? Serious thread so don't attack me, ok?  |

Wedding bands aren't that expensive. It's the engagement rings that lighten your wallet considerably...  |

That's true. A gold wedding band for your wife costs as little as $20 if you go to Walmart. A silver wedding band for your husband costs about the same. Engagement rings... thost practically start at $400.
As for it being bidah.... they are not prohibited in Islam. Also, in the west they serve an important function that keeps you away from unwanted sexual intention. By signaling to others "I'm taken, back off" they can save you from such haram activities as flirting, being asked out for coffee, etc.

Okay, guys can be "taken" once and then thereafter upto three times, so I dont think a wedding band on a guy will necessarily stop another woman from making her plans.
And vice versa, for a woman wearing one, I really dont think too many men in this society would refrain from hitting on her and getting something going on the side.
Hijab, modest clothing and modesty in manners will go a lot farther in preventing unwarranted attention.

You would be amazed how many students think they can get things from you by flirting etc. That little ring on your finger really closes the door to that kind of behavior even more than hijabs and modest behavior. I'm talking about unwanted sexual attention here. If the married man/woman is so totally imodest that they go seeking extramerital sexual attention, no ring or clothing will stop that.
