I decided to post this as a new thread cuz it's a big issue
and there are misconceptions related to the preservation of the Quran in both, the muslim, and non muslim world. Go to this site for more info...ive basically summarized it here. Preservation and Authenticity of Holy Quran I hope you all benefit from my answer...so here it goes. The Quran, although not formally written by Rasul-Allah pbuh, upon the revelation of a verse through Gabriel, he would memorize the verse or people around him would write it down. Now, one would argue that "maybe the writers made mistakes." It could have been so BUT Rasul-Allah, once his followers wrote down the text, Rasul-Allah would check it himself, he would ask the companions to say it out loud, and, if anything was incorrect, misplaced, or misread, it would be corrected immediately by Rasul-Allah pbuh. Furthermore, he would periodically check on the campanions' memorization of the Quran and would check and recheck the verses. Now, there is also a misconception that the third Khalif, Usman ra, had burned all the copies of the Quran except for one, that would become the "stardized version" of the Quran. Let's go back in time a little. The first Quran, with the proper placement of chapters and verses, was already present during the time of the prophet pbuh. But the verses were written down on various different pieces of papers, leaves, and stones. Soon after the passing away of the prophet, Hadrat Abu Bakr ra ordered that the Quran be copied from these materials to paper and it was done so and then bound by string so that not one piece of the revelation would be lost. Under Usman ra's leadership, there were various copies of the Quran, in a sense that people wrote down the revelations on their own if and when they heard them, hence, these verses and sections kept by others were not verified by the Prophet pbuh. These copies could have resulted in disputes later on so these were the copies that were asked to be burned. Usman (r.a.) borrowed the original manuscript of the Qur’an, which was authorized by the beloved Prophet (pbuh), from Hafsha (may Allah be pleased with her), the Prophet’s wife. Usman (r.a.) ordered four Companions who were among the scribes who wrote the Qur’an when the Prophet dictated it, led by Zaid bin Thabit (r.a.) to rewrite the script in several perfect copies. These were sent by Usman (r.a.) to the main centres of Muslims. Two such copies of the copied text of the original Qur’an authenticated by the Prophet are present to this day, one at the museum in Tashkent in erstwhile Soviet Union and the other at the Topkapi Museum in Istanbul, Turkey. Hope that helps Salaams everyone
