To obtain nearness with our Lord (exalted and glorified is He) and to be thankful servants.
Allah (azza wajal) loves those who are thankful.

I think this isn't the right way to look at it. Inshallah, if you pray regularly you WILL be rewarded by God as He has planned for you, but the point of ibadat of any kind should be principally because we are trying to Submit ourselves to God and trying to do what we believe He wants us to do.

The gain for ourselves is secondary, not primary, so I don't think it's right to call reward the "purpose" of anything we do in the way of Islam.

Allah only created the jinn and humans to worship Him.
That doesnt mean you don't do anything else other than pray, you just ask Allah to put blessings in whatever you do in your life.

3:115 And whatever good they do, they shall never be denied the reward thereof: for, God has full knowledge of those who are conscious of Him.

...as per "time frame" (dunyaa-this life, aakhira-afterlife or both)... that's up to God, no?

Do bad, earn bad, do good, earn good... reap what's sown... be ever mindful of God for He [Alone] sees-KNOWS-the truer intention at the heart of the matter.

'aalaykum assalaamu wa rahmatullahi wa barakaatuh
