Incidentally, this is also the reasoning (to my knowledge) behind why some people consider shrimp to be makruh -- it dies very quickly after being caught if removed from water and you generally don't know if the fisherman was a muslim.

i think the quran mentions catching fish that are allready dead saying that even those may be okay since if you have for example a huge net of fish you dont know if you killed them or if they allready died
just keep it simple - food of the sea is allowed - thats how i go about it

I dunno, people get sick all the time eating sea food. Why say pork is haram when certain filter fish could be more dangerous to eat? Then again, I don't pretend to know why pork is haram, it could be for some spiritual reason, and nothing to do with health.

This is in fact what the vast majority of muslims do.

Re: Makruh Things
I do that too, but I just read on Sunnipath that if you're Hanafi, you can eat fish (sharks and whales included) and shrimp and nothing else.

pork is disgusting, they eat their own filth and waddle around in it all day......not to mention how bad it is for you
but fish man, fish is so good for you, they say eating fish just once a month decreases risks of heart disease. look at the oldest people in the world/countries with the highest life expectency: places like japan and china: they eat a lot of seafood vs red meat

Meh, I heard that given the option, they won't eat where they defecate, and anyway, you do in fact cook the meat. Many fish eat 'filth' found in the ocean as well, spending all day sucking on it.

Not the Japanese so much -- they also have had ritual purity issues with pork and it's never really become a central part of their cuisine. The Chinese, on the other hand, will eat anything.
