Actually the Smegma can and does build up in the female gentalia..in the specific area you are discussing. Its just as important for females to clean as it is for an uncircumcised male.

So I think Variable is right; there are lots of different medical opinions on this. You got the people going "Smegma is perfectly normal and healthy and having an intact foreskin doesn't make it any more difficult to clean your genitals" and then you got the for-circumcision people going "No, it's dirty unless you circumcise."

Really, Allahu Alim, but primarily the reason for male circumcision is 'cause Allah has commanded it.

Right, I know, but I figured it's around the clitoral hood and not under and on the actual clit itself. 'Cause that doesn't sound right to me.

Actually I'm really not... I didn't even know what 'smegma' was until like... yesterday.

But anyway, thanks for acknowledging that in terms of health the issue isn't so cut and dry (no pun intended).

I saw a very sad case in the OR. A kid whose mohel botched the circumcision (took off parts that should stay, left some that should go ), then threw away the tissue so it couldn't be reattached. He did that despite being a surgeon in his "day job".

We reconstructed everything so it looked very close to normal, but the poor thing is always going to have scarring, and he'll never quite be normal.

Moral of the story: don't let anyone near your baby with a knife, unless (even if) you're certain they know what they're doing.

This isn't publicized very often, but you all do know that mohels traditionally and to this day, use their mouths to suck some blood from the Jewish baby's penis? There have been several instances where the mohel has transmitted herpes to newborns.

I never knew they actually put their mouths to the baby's penis. How come that isn't considered sexual abuse?
