Sheikh Ibrahim Memon Madania
Who loves this scholar as much as I do? I've listened to tons of lecturers, and Sheikh Ibrahim is in a class of his own, mashAllah. If you really want something to fill you with knowledge and the sweetness of imaan, check out his lectures.

Without Shaykh Ibrahim Memon, I would probably not be a Muslim.

Either he did it or he didn't. If he committed a crime, then we should support the legal sanctions against him. If he didn't do a crime, then we should guard our tongues.

Legally, what can he be charged with?

At the least, probably polygamy. If there was no marriage, as he says, then I'm not sure what he could be charged with, but Islamically, if there was no marriage and they had relations, then he committed zina.
Thats why the whole thing is really controversial. If he had a polygamous marriage, then I don't think most people would be up in arms, except the girl's father who was apparently not aware of it.

Word. I posted a thread about this before, but a lot of people complained and said I should take it down (and the link I had on facebook). Its a pretty big issue and everyone wants to shove it under the rug.
I'm just as shocked as everyone else, but I think people need to know what happened so it creates some accountability in our Islamic institutions and ensures this doesn't happen again.

Re: Sheikh Ibrahim Memon Madania
You know what pisses me off...
almost all Islamic institutions have been engulfed in something like this. Its very disheartening.
A couple of years back, Mufti Majid from Ajax was charged with similar offenses... but was later found innocent, but that wasn't in the newspapers.

Re: Sheikh Ibrahim Memon Madania
yes, its complex and very strange to hear. i dont know who's telling the truth and who isn't, but the mere possibility that there was some 'improper' actions committed by an islamic public figure, a leader of a madrasa and a highly regarded individual (until this startling news) is a good enough reason that we shouldn't shove it under the carpet and pretend it doesn't exist.
I mean what if its true, wouldn't you like to know what becomes of this? what if you're about to send your child to this madrasa, shouldnt you know what kind of leadership the madrasa is under? this man is being entrusted with your children.
again, i dont know where the truth lies, but the mere allegations are enough that the matter be investigated and if wrong was done, the individual should be held responsible.
you don't shove these things under the carpet and act like it doesn't exist. if you do that, the next time this happens, it'll be more shocking and ten times worse.
