Why do sunnis name their daughters 'hind'

Someone told me that the name "Hind" was somewhat present in the sunni community, but I dismissed it as overly ridiculous. Then I saw the name just now and I'm flabbergasted.

What is the reasoning for this? Have you people lost your minds?

She literally walked out on the battlefield and ate the Prophet's uncles organs!

Please tell me this is some form of honest ignorance and that its not 'acceptable'

I know a shia named Hind, I was like what when I found out she was shia, maybe they meant it as in Hind- India?

It's quite a nice name if you forget the lady it was named after and she became Muslim too, so its not all bad.

I don't know anyone named that, but she became Muslim in the end, so in a way, it's a good name because it represents how far she came to accept Islam and resolve to stay on the straight path.

When someone becomes a Muslim, ALL their previous sins are forgiven.

It is reported that Hind went to Rasulullah (sallahu alayhi wa salam), bringing many women of the Quraish with her to take the shahadah. She told him "before there was no one in the world who hated you more than me. Now there is no one in the world who loves you more than me."

And remember, Hind is the mother in law of Rasulullah as he was married to her daughter.

People can change, I hope Sunnis are not the only ones who believe that.

Zelaikha is too hard to pronounce

I don't know why more kids aren't called "Supercallafrajalisticexpialladocious".

Even though the sound of it is something quite atrocious, if you say it loud enough it will always sound precocious.

That's what I think anyway.

I know a Hind. I don't think it's as horrible as you express. I think it's a great deal better than Isabella, despite how much I love the way Isabella sounds.

Its a name.

There have been evil people in history who've had all the names you can imagine under the sun, so does that mean we should stop using their names?

Well, if you chose a historically popular name for you child, I would hope that the person was a good one, since that will be what comes to the mind of others. Would you not feel a tad bit hesitant about a person who named their child, Hitler or of the such?
