Re: which Cool people you have chilled with
1. Mufti Rafi Usmani - when he visited America. I got a chance to interview him.
2. Shaykh Ninowy - attended a private gathering with some brothers. His mastery of aqeedah is phenomenal. If anyone has any issues regarding aqeedah or ilm ul kalam, I would strongly recommend referring them to him. He's the biggest scholar in America to consult on these matters.
3. Shaykh Faraz Rabbani - he was at the gathering above. Shaykh Faraz ... is ... just noor man. Plain noor. You cannot hang out with Shaykh Faraz without your adab improving, regardless if it is the adab with Allah (subhana wa ta'ala), the Prophet (sallahu alayhi wa sallam), or anyone else.
4. Maulana Ibrahim Memon - met him on multiple occasions
5. Altaf Hussein - see him ever so often. He used to make fun of me for the hearthrob pictures of myself on naseeb. err. No comment.
6. Dr. Ashraf from Al-Maghrib who taught "Islam Invulnerable" - He is my personal hero and has inspired me tremendously. I re-invented my blog after I met him.
7. Shaykh Irfan Kabieruddin - My shaykh He's a student of some of the most eminent 'Ulema in the world and gives some awesome halaqas.
8. CAIR people - Nihad Awad and Ibrahim Hooper - met them a few years back when i was appointed as a representative for a bunch of masajid and we had to speak before a U.S. senator to prevent Daniel Pipes from being appointed to the US Institute for Peace.
9. Zaki -
10. Dr. Israr Ahmed - My dad took me to meet him when I was a kid when he was visiting the U.S.
11. Muhammad al Shareef - Founder of the Al Maghrib Institute - when I was in college, he used to give us khutbahs and also gave talks during our MSA's Eidh Dinners.
12. Saad Tasleem - Currently studying at Madinah University. Went to college with him. He's an awesome brother.
13. Shaykh Husain AbdulSattar - got to hang out with him for a little bit after he visited our Masjid
May Allah (subhana wa ta'ala) reward all of these people with jannat al firdaus. Ameen!

Re: which Cool people you have chilled with
Former Guantanamo bay detainee, Moazzam Begg, I took him to the mosque for iftaar after a talk and spent a couple of hours talking to him- really sound guy, good views on stuff.
There was another guy from Gitmo my family knew in the early nineties, don't know what happened to him.

I cannot believe you did not list Dr. Umar after I KINDLY GAVE UP MY CHANCE OF HAVING DINNER WITH HIM AND FORCED HIM TO SIT WITH YOU.

Our local Imam has pushup contests with the youth. He used to be in the Egyptian Army. Beat that

I think he wrote (or his students with his permisson and supervision) a booklet on it and two of his female students were given ijaza to teach it- very thorough masha Allah.

Re: which Cool people you have chilled with
why is it so many women love dr. umar faruq?
his knowledge in history is massive and a great speaker mA,
but i dislike the fact how people take his words as fatwas.
i dont believe he is in a position for any of that.
i also disliked how he said muslims should join the US army at the first wave of the Afghan war.
I've got to hang out with Maulana Nabeel Khan for a bit. very nice and cool guy.

Re: which Cool people you have chilled with
I once had dinner with Imam Zaid Shakir, his wife and some Zaytuna staff. Does that count?

Dude, in Chicago? He's my relative (husband's cousin) and former co-worker.
Whenever he comes back here for visit my hubby and him have these long sessions where they exchange islamic and medical advice. and then he teaches my kids to say weird things
Also, resay, about shaikh hamza's assistant.... never met him or anything, but a lot of guys out here have a tendency to walk and talk like that, but are not. It's especially amusing when they dress like hoods but open their mouths and talk like valley girls
