I just picked up a Manual of HAdith
...in borders its by Maulana Muhammad Ali..
any good?

Well, the guy seems pretty suspect, yeah? You should've asked us before you bought it. 
And you want authentic hadiths, you use Sahih Al-Bukhari.
Amazon.com: The Translation of the Meanings of Summarized Sahih Al-Bukhari: Arabic-English: Books: Muhammad M. Khan
Muhsin Khan's The Translation of the Meanings of Sahih Al-Bukhari is good. I think these are the ones up on USC-MSA's website too.
Also, you don't need to memorize 'em. You just gotta follow 'em.

also to add on, almost all of borders books on islam are either anti-islamic or written by those who have ideologies such as those of the ahmadiyyah movement. I actuallu had bought a couple of hadith books from borders written by muhammad ali (the same person you stated) and alhamdillah i became aware of the author and got rid of the books. I knew someone who actually had the quran translation by him, that was bought from borders and the shubhas in the tafsir got into that persons heart and the person began questiong some of the things in the book, so it is dangerous to reads the books of people like him.

I've seen that book in Borders. Its the one with the green hardback cover and the gold title, isn't it?
The problem is that even if the hadiths are reported correctly, the Ahmadis have a completely different interpretation on what those hadith would mean. If you're Ahmadi, then obviously that's fine, but I don't think it would be that useful for you, unless you want to read it for academic purposes.
Even then, I would recommend a sound foundation in how the consensus of mainstream Muslim scholars interpret hadiths before you tackle any non-mainstream studies for academic purposes.

Yeah thats the one..i just bought the book for the HAdiths just to have a hard copy of Hadiths rather than using t'interwebs!
i am a noob when it comes to hadith transmission so somone should provide a reading list on here inshaAllah.

Yeah I know what you mean. I got an English translation of Sahih Bukhari from Malaysia, but I'm sure you can buy different translations from a decent Islamic bookstore. Do you have any near you?

Provisions for the Seekers
Also recommend Imam Nawawi's Riyadh us Saliheen
Al-Rashad Books has beautiful books MashaAllah. (check their Hadith section) |

Doesn't matter if you don't have an Islamic bookstore closeby. I gave you an Amazon link to an English translation of Bukhari.
What mistakes are on that site?
