The Chain Of Narration Of Different Qir�'�t
In this section, the chain of narration or isnad of each Qir�'�t will be presented. It is worth noting that the chains of narration here are mutawatir.

Qir�'a from Madinah: The reading of Madinah known as the reading of N�fic Ibn Ab� Nac�m (more precisely Ab� cAbd ar-Rahm�n N�fic Ibn cAbd ar-Rahm�n).

N�fic died in the year 169 H. He reported from Yaz�d Ibn al-Qacq�c and cAbd ar-Rahm�n Ibn Hurmuz al-'Araj and Muslim Ibn Jundub al-Hudhal� and Yaz�d Ibn Rom�n and Shaybah Ibn Nis�'. All of them reported from Ab� Hurayrah and Ibn cAbb�s and cAbdall�h Ibn 'Ayy�sh Ibn Ab� Rab�'ah al-Makhz�m� and the last three reported from Ubayy Ibn Kacb from the Prophet(P).[14]

From N�fic, two major readings came to us : Warsh and Q�l�n.

Qir�'a from Makkah: The reading of Ibn Kath�r (cAbdull�h Ibn Kath�r ad-D�r�):

Ibn Kath�r died in the year 120 H. He reported from cAbdill�h Ibn Assa'ib al-Makhz�m� who reported from Ubayy Ibn Kacb (The companion of the Prophet(P)).

Ibn Kath�r has also reported from Muj�hid Ibn Jabr who reported from his teacher Ibn cAbb�s who reported from Ubayy Ibn Kacb and Zayd Ibn Th�bit and both reported from the Prophet(P).[15]

Qir�'a from Damascus: From ash-Sh�m (Damascus), the reading is called after cAbdull�h Ibn cAamir.

He died in 118 H. He reported from Ab� ad-Dard�' and al-Mugh�rah Ibn Ab� Shih�b al-Makhz�m� from cUthm�n.[16]

Qir�'a from Basrah: The reading of Ab� cAmr from Basrah:

(According to al-Sabcah, the book of Ibn Muj�hid page 79, Ab� cAmr is called Zayyan Ab� cAmr Ibn al-cAl�'. He was born in Makkah in the year 68 and grew up at K�fah.) He died at 154 H. He reported from Muj�hid and Sac�d Ibn Jubayr and 'Ikrimah Ibn Kh�lid al-Makhz�m� and 'At�' Ibn Ab� Rab�h and Muhammad Ibn cAbd ar-Rahm�n Ibn al-Muhaysin and Humayd Ibn Qays al-cA'raj and all are from Makkah.
He also reported from Yaz�d Ibn al-Qacq�c and Yaz�d Ibn Rum�n and Shaybah Ibn Nis�' and all are from Madinah.
He also reported from al-'Assan and Yahy� Ibn Yacmur and others from Basrah.
All these people took from the companions of the Prophet(P).[17]

From him came two readings called as-S�si and ad-D�r�.

Qir�'a from Basrah: From Basrah, the reading known as

Yacq�b Ibn Ish�q al-Hadram� the companion of Shucbah (again). He reported from Ab� cAmr and others.[18]

Qir�'a from K�fah:The reading of cAasim Ibn Ab� an-Naj�d (cAasim Ibn Bahdalah Ibn Ab� an-Naj�d):

He died in the year 127 or 128 H. He reported from Ab� cAbd ar-Rahm�n as-Solamm� and Zirr Ibn Hubaysh.
Ab� cAbd ar-Rahm�n reported from cUthm�n and cAl� Ibn Ab� T�lib and 'Ubayy (Ibn Kacb) and Zayd (Ibn Th�bit).
And Zirr reported from Ibn Mascud.[19]

Two readings were repoted from cAasim: The famous one is Hafs, the other one is Shucbah.

Qir�'a from K�fah: The reading of Hamzah Ibn Hab�b (from K�fah as well)

Hamzah was born in the year 80 H and died in the year 156 H. He reported from Muhammad Ibn cAbd ar-Rahm�n Ibn Ab� Layl� (who reads the reading of cAl� Ibn Ab� T�lib (RA), according to the book of Ibn Muj�hid called al-Sabcah - The Seven - page 74) and Humr�n Ibn A'yan and Ab� Ish�q as-Sab�'y and Mansur Ibn al-Mu'tamir and al-Mugh�rah Ibn Miqsam and Jacfar Ibn Muhammad Ibn cAl� Ibn Ab� T�lib from the Prophet(P).[20]

Qir�'a from K�fah: The reading of al-'Amash from K�fah as well:

He reported from Yahy� Ibn Wathth�b from 'Alqamah and al-'Aswad and 'Ubayd Ibn Nadlah al-Khuz�'y and Ab� cAbd ar-Rahm�n as-Sulam� and Zirr ibn Hubaysh and all reported from Ibn Mascud.[21]

Qir�'a from K�fah: The reading of cAli Ibn Hamzah al-Kis�'i known as al-Kis�'i from K�fah.

He died in the year 189 H. He reported from Hamzah (the previous one) and cIes� Ibn cUmar and Muhammad Ibn cAbd ar-Rahm�n Ibn Ab� Layl� and others.[22]

Mashallah, great info!

Personally, readings through Imam Warsh is difficult especially when certain letters meet with the letter 'hamzah'... quite confusing. Am i right to say the most popular/easy readings is following the method of Hafs an Asim by way of Shatibiyyah? I know a qari that can read using both Qiraat. Mashallah...

Shias are in all those chains which narrate something 'unusual', not surprising.

Ye hafs is the most common recitation. I've heard someone who could recite in all the 10 recitations! It was awesome!

It was narrated through various chains that go back to Uthman (ra) to Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) and other ashaabs as well.
