Re: Being a Real Man in Islam
No actually it works. Plus its a great reminder and an eeman booster. I know for a fact that some Brothers went and lay down in one to get the 'feel' of it. And some do it often to stay on track.
May Allah subhanna wa ta'ala protect all of us from the punishment and torment of the grave. Ameen.

Re: Being a Real Man in Islam
people who do it from choice is different. People who try and impose it on others are messed up. Noone has the right to disturb the balances of another persons mental state with such an act!

I don't think it's meant to disturb anyones mental state. A trip to the graveyard is a trip to the graveyard. A reminder that we are all mortal creatures on this Earth with very limited time. It's like a slap that brings you, or should bring you back to reality. When you think about death, when it is the reality in front of you, you start to look at your life and problems and actions with a whole new perspective. If a trip to the graveyard scars an adult person, then they've probably been way out of touch with reality for a while. And how is it healthy to live your life completely 'sheltered' from that which is inevitable?

That's nice.
What I quoted was quoth by Elrond, however.
Its a fine way to do it, in fact once we had a qiyaam at a masjid, with about 120 guys ... teenagers and young bucks in their early 20s ... and at like 2am, about 100 of them piled into like 20 cars, souped up Acuras and Civics and Mitsubishis, and they all headed off to the nearest cemetery. Most of the boys didn't know where the drivers were taking them.
In any case, after that event, a lot of the boys gave up stupid stuff like smoking and being disobedient to their parents, etc etc. They became better people.
hmmm ... not so messed up then, eh.

Ghulam (older than Sabbi, and that's probably 10+)
Fatta (I'd say between 12-17)
Shaab (young man, probably 18+)
Rajjul (man, that's like nearing or mid 30s)
Kahl (one who has reached maturity, 30+)
Shaykh or Sha'ib (one whose hair and beard has started greying indicating old age, 50+)
Mussin (60+)
Mu3ammir or Harrim (one who lives long or one who becomes old and weak, and that would be 70+)
Does that make sense? Maybe you were asking for a simple answer, but I get carried away sometimes

most of those words arent commonly used in the most widely spoken and important arabic dialects

I don't think scholars write in the "commonly used and widely spoken" Arabic dialects. Scholars use fusha, and the article quotes fusha Arabic.
You're probably just unfamiliar with all this and you're jealous I know more

MashaAllah, the Arab language is so rich!
Revert, here you have your answer on why some of us try to incorporate this language into our own conversations.
You're so blessed ukhti to speak it so fluently. MashaAllah!
P.S and yes you do get carried away at times but that's a thread in itself!

Haha, thanks
Actually, in our dialect, we use 7 of all these words. It's not completely unused and ancient.
Objectively speaking, Arabic is a beautiful language.

Re: Being a Real Man in Islam
No, I meant objectively.
It being my native language does not affect my opinion. I'd learn it even if it wasn't.

Re: Being a Real Man in Islam
you dont know that since your only experience of the world has been as a native speaker of that language, and if you had been a native speaker of some other language your experience and view of the world would have been very different
according to the stalinist chomsky anyway
