Yay Kamran Pasha, Executive Producer of "Kings" and "Sleeper Cell", on Islam

For a Hollywood producer, Kamran Pasha, does a pretty good job on explaining Islam to non-Muslim students at USC film class. I find it ironic on how he reveals hidden prejudices and keeping it real at the same time when explaining Muslim controversies.

He seems pretty good, but I think he's got some of his stuff wrong within the first two minutes of the first vid.

Well just his presentation of the world that Islam was born into verses the world that Christianity was born into. When Christianity made its debut, there was a dominant religion of the Roman Empire at the time (Roman paganism), judaism, other forms of paganism, and the Persians had their own thing.

When Islam came along, the Roman Empires had their dominant religion (Roman and Orthodox Christianity), there was judaism, other forms of paganism and the Persians still had their own thing. I don't see what he was trying to delineate there.

And I don't know if the Prophet ever came into contact with a Hindu or Buddhist, but he certainly didn't only know about Jews and Christians. (at 1:45 in the video)

That's weird, on video number 4 at about 2:35, he's actually praising how British and French intelligence communities conduct their investigations, and goes on to say that Muslims in France aren't considered as much of an 'other' as in the US.

He never said the Prophet came into contact with a Hindu or Buddhist if i recall correctly but there were also Zorastrians (sp) that Muhamamd (saw) knew of. He just highlighted the main religions that the audience would know of.

Yeh, but to say that he only knew of Christianity and Judaism, isn't right. He left the people giggling, but with inaccurate information. It's not a huge deal or anything though... it's kind of a benign point, and what those people probably are going to walk away with is: 'maybe Islam isn't all curvey swords and angry beards', so I'm not complaining.

Um... I guess just because mostly when I hear about the relation between France and its Muslims, it's characterized by division and dischord, and that it's contrasted to the well integrated Musilm community in the States.

Do you think the audience would have known what Zorastrian is?

Muslims are integrated here because they are financially well off and because of certain values that Amercians hold dearly. He does make a contrast when it comes to libertarian type of freedom that Americans have versus the pro-French nationalism.

Some had probably heard of it. He could've easily mentioned it in four seconds.... "There was this other religion in Persia called Zoroastrianism, different from Christianity or Judaism". But it wasn't just Zoroastrianism... the dominant religion of the Prophet's region was paganism, not Christianity (which was then only dominant to the West, not East). So I think it's just inaccurate to say what he did... that Christianity was the dominant world religion, and all the Prophet knew was Christianity and Judaism. I don't think there's an agenda there, it's just inaccurate.

Yeh... but on that one point it's just the first time I've heard that said is all.

I agree. Compared to Zarqa Nawaz (Little Mosque on the Praire) that some Muslims like , Kamran Pasha is way more talented and definitely more successful. That one episode he wrote about the imam that reforms terrorists was probably THE best episode when it comes to standalone episodes. Some of my non-Muslim friends think Sleeper Cell is better than 24.

i saw the first season of sleeper cell and i hated it, and i saw the first episode of kings on hulu and it was trash. As far as i know both shows have been canned and they both deserved it... but thats just my opinion, try not to get your panties knotted up over it. I'm sure there are people who like those lame shows and everybodys entitled to an opinion
