I found out today that if you want a sure fire way to be labelled as a shi'ah, then give a khutbah on the martyrdom of sayyidna hussayn (ra) and his family (ra) during muharram.
It's a sad sad world we live in. Allahumma salle `ala muhammed wa `aale muhammed. was-Salaam

There are more tragic stories in the history and present day of Islam than just the event of Karbala. The Karbala stories are made up and used by shias to hijack Islam. They make it more tragic than it is already, and make people shed crocodile tears in their Muharram gatherings. If you want to see these dramas, come to Pakistan and watch tv channels and I'm sure it will make you feel like breaking your TV set.

Muharram comes and you make faces saying, O my God, now shia 'boys' will play sad songs (Nauhas) will full volume in their cars and houses giving you a headache. At least first 10 days will pass in fake crying and mourning, Muharram gatherings where they eat and eat and eat..don't they?
Can't they find a better way to commemorate the martyrdom of their Imam which would be decent and graceful? Also, it makes sense why they have Muharram processions in only those countries where they are a minority or are struggling for 'power' and not in their Holy Iran. Every shia comes out of his/her house to join Muharram processions in order to give the impression that shias are a great 'political force'. |

Khairain do you have a reference for the attribution of the saying "Every day is Ashura and every land of Karbala" to Imam Al-Sadiq because as far as I know this is just a famous adage and not a hadith

No, unfortunately I do not have a primary text to reference this to. However, I was always taught that this was a saying by Imam Jafar as-Sadiq, and I've seen the words attributed to him numerous times in articles and the like. |

I think its great to see shia folk in Pakistani cities (its the only country I've visited outside of the states during muharram) out on the streets celebrating/mourning whatever, though I have no general interest in it or religion per se. I commend the shia for their passionate love for ali. Its actually something to be jealous of, not frowned upon.

Salaam,
The hadith does attribute this saying to the Imam, but its authenticity is in doubt. Syed Modaressi is correct in that regard, but in general I do not rely upon him for ilm e rijal or ilm e hadith. Otherwise I think hes a great speaker! - rahat

Bull crap. This is just the barelwi in you speaking, since barelwis are closer to shias than to sunnis. Polytheists love polytheists, and monotheists love monotheists. Yes, if you give a khutbah and call him "Imam" and "alayhis salam" and such stuff, obviously people will wonder!
