Re: 12 Excuses why some Muslims don’t fast
those excuses above are just plain out bs, and well it just is. But like it's been said before, there are some vaild reasons for not fasting but the list above is just sad. But if their heart isn't in it then they shouldn't do it, right!

Re: 12 Excuses why some Muslims don’t fast
I don't care if other sisters aren't fasting or they aren't praying-- but if you're going to be in the Masjid, attending the Iftar, get your stupid ass up when everyone else begins to line up for prayer. Don't continue to sit there eating in front of the people lining up to pray and then have the nerve to look all indignant when told to move.

But the first excuse, even though it's not valid, has a lot of pull for some people. They think that if they don't pray or anything the rest of the time, then why fast during Ramadan? Are they gonna pray just for Ramadan and then stop again? It's like... "Why wear hijab if I don't pray or fast or do the other stuff that's fard? I'll just be pretending to be a good Muslim when I'm not."

|
ALL of those excuses hold pull for people. What's pathetic is that most of them are just random ways of saying "I'm following the crowd."

Re: 12 Excuses why some Muslims don’t fast
Question: If somebody doesn't fast for Ramadan, with no real excuse, then like 4 years later decide they wanna start, do they have to make up ALL the days they missed? I know someone who I guess fell off the path or something and now he wants to be a better Muslim. Thanks

Re: 12 Excuses why some Muslims don’t fast
Asallamu 'alaikum wa rahmatulLahi wa barakatuh
I'm no scholar, but as it's a pillar of faith in Islam, just like a new Muslim wouldn't have to make up for all of the prayers they didn't do while they were unbelievers, I don't think your friend will have to make up for all those missed Ramadans, since it's like they've newly reverted. But I think it would be best if they made up for all those lost days. Allahu a'lam.
And IslamOnline says:
>>>The hadith which states that if a person deliberately breaks a single day of fast, he cannot make up for it by fasting an entire life-time is intended to show the importance of Ramadan fasting; its real meaning is: one cannot hope to gain the same spiritual rewards even while making up for it; it does not take away the obligation to make up for the fasts deliberately broken by any means.
>>>In order to expiate for one's past sins, there are a number of things recommended:
1. Virtuous acts of any kind including charities; charities are especially mentioned in the sources, as well as acts of compassion;
2. Voluntary fasts;
3. Consistency in dhikr (remembrance of Allah) and istighfar (asking Allah for forgiveness).

Re: 12 Excuses why some Muslims don’t fast
For the girls its understandable, but most of those items in the list won't work for guys. And that's even with giving them excuses if they're apparently not fasting, but once they open their mouth and state their reason why they aren't fasting, it don't fly.

Re: 12 Excuses why some Muslims don’t fast
Just my two cents:
Maybe the message of Ramadhan should not be what everyone else is doing, but what we as individuals should be doing with our own actions.

Re: 12 Excuses why some Muslims don’t fast
when i first read this, i had skipped the top paragraph and gone straight to the list....
i was like =O
i donno...i find it odd when people dont fast...i mean..sure if they have a problem or something...but i have a friend who doesnt fast, because she doesnt "believe"...and that kinda makes me judge her...you know..? i guess its wrong. i keep trying to make her "believe" again.
i talked to her today and she was like, if i get into the colleges i want to get into, then ill start believing in "Him" again. So i said i would do dua. and she is a very good student, so chances are that she will get in. so inshAllah, i am hoping shell come back to Islam.

I don't really fast. But I do a few every year, usually some of the weekends.

We all know people who don’t fast and others who make excuses not to fast. The excuses below are not an exhaustive list but just some of the excuses which people give not to fast. The objective is not to ridicule individuals who are astray from Islam and victims of the predominant culture around us, but rather for us to be aware that not every single Muslim fasts and they all give different excuses which we should be able to refute and explain to them why they should fast.
